Game keeps updating upon launch after modding certain things

Featured Replies

I finally got LSPDFR to work and started doing some basic modding, like the enhanced lighting, sirens, uniforms, etc.

However, every time I launch the game, it keeps downloading an "update" and when the game opens, none of my changes took effect. My head is about to burst trying to figure this out.

Suggestions? Thanks.

I know whats going on here.

You need to make a new folder called "mods" (all in lowercase) in your main games directory and essentially copy the file paths/structure/layout and put them inside your new mods folder (by making empty folders etc.)

.....BELOW IS JUST AN EXAMPLE.....

Be sure to copy the structure of the directories like mods>audio>sfx>resident.rpf etc etc etc

(So make the empty folders in the same order as they are in the game.)

Then copy and paste any files and folders into the directory you just made, then edit THOSE copies of the games stuff.  That way the game cant detect it and does not over ride what you changed.

***The game will always load from the custom stuff in your mods folder instead of the main game copy***

I hope this makes sense to you.

So if I understand you correctly...

Any file I wish to modify in OpenIV, I need to make a copy of said file to the "mods" folder and only modify that file in OpenIV, not the original root folders, correct?

Yes. But be sure to load OpenIV.ASI and ASI Loader (it's under the "Tools-ASI Manager") otherwise the game will load the normal files.

You both are lifesavers, did exactly as you guys mentioned and it FINALLY friggin works. Thanks a bunch.

No problems :)
