Shoutbox

Featured Replies

Most people should know what a shoutbox is, it is basically a global text chat, in which any user can type, add photos, etc, this is employed on a few sites already, and really does help to bring the community together a bit more, it would also help newer players look for support from fellow community members, and may avoid threads like this:

I believe this would add a quicker, friendlier support from the community, because not many people will deliberately go out of their way to answer small threads that have a few words for an answer, before the thread is left to sit there and rot...

I know at least one community in which the shoutbox is used often as a friendly community tool for a bit of banter, and to help out people with questions that need answering, for example, if there was a shoutbox, I would ask "how do I change the thingy above my name?" instead of making an entire thread dedicated to "the thingy above my name..."

We had a shoutbox years ago, and it was almost impossible to moderate as the site grew.  With over 167,000 members, there's no way we could keep the shoutbox running smoothly.

We do however have a profile status block on the forum page where recent statuses will show.  If a question is asked there people can see it.

Oh god no. As Iconography stated, the amount of members on the site would just be repetitivivly spammed and would take a bunch of resources just to moderate the shoutbox at non-peak times. Not to mention the amount of members that will be drawn to the site when LSPDFR is released.

Regardless, thanks for the suggestion.

A modding website like this cannot have a shoutbox as it'snot feasible. This is a community yes, but it's modifications focused. Unlike gaming groups, like Code Zero Gaming, who have their own community forums. Gaming groups uses their forums to connect with their fans. While this site leans more to Modification for Grand Theft Auto.

yes, I see your point, and It does work well on gaming community websites, I know this as I was a part of several communities featuring this website feature. I just though that, considering the website was going for a more "community focused design" then a shoutbox could be implemented if it was received well.
