Adding front and back license plates

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am having issues adding a front and back license plate to a vehicle I'm modeling (can upload pics if necessary). I take a license plate form another vehicle, export it as a wft, and import it into the project I'm working on (better way?). I create a new texture, and map it to that, because I can't figure out how to map it to the regular car livery. It shows up in OpenIV, but won't show up in-game. I'm not that great with technical terms in Zmod... could use some help. Thanks!

Are you talking about making a seperate texture for the license plate, or are you going to put it onto a template like pretty much every police purpose model on here?

I'm trying to add/import a license plate from another model. Then map it to the vehicle livery/texture. The reason for adding/importing from a different vehicle, is because the model I'm working on doesn't have license plates to begin with.

The outline for doing this:

1. import

2.right cick it in the heiarchy -> preferences -> polygons -> materials. Set this to the the material that the body is using (usually a paint3), if you are really not sure go into the material editor and unclick click the materials, look at your 3D view and you'll see some parts become invisible so you can figure out which material you want. (dont forget to hit apply!)

3. Map it (in a paint3 material you have to set the UV channel (one on top) to UV 2. then you should see in the mapping view the texture/template. Also in the mapping box force material to the one you found earlier.

4. Of course position and attach as necessary

also when you do the other plate, you'll have to remap it as well because when you copy it also copys the mapping. The neat clever way is when your in the mapping dialog, select keep old mapping and check 'select old mapping' (UV#2 and force material too)

Hmm... I must be doing it wrong. Here's what I tried.

Material Editor (paint3) set the top material to UV 2. Mapped the license plate, and I got an error on exporting (also crashed with RC20 error in-game). I tried setting the top material back to UV1, same result.
