How long until we start seeing car mods in GTA V?

Featured Replies

Title says all. I know nothing about the technical details of modding games, but for those that do, how long do you think it will be until we start seeing car mods for GTA V? We're managing to bypass Rockstar's provisions and make script mods, which is fantastic. But what problems are preventing us from making models and putting them into the game?

the game is out for like a month now and we already have such mods, making car mods is a whole diferent story tho: first you need a program to make them and export them to the right format. that is going to take a while to make. also you still cant edit the files in open iv.
it will take some time, believe me

First, people need to decode the V fragment format (.yft). We can edit RPFs, but AFAIK no one even knows how to *read* a YFT; car modding requires someone writing a converter between a more standard format and YFT. The Zmodeler guy is working on making one for Zmodeler, and it's possible the OpenIV guys might be able to get an OpenFormats-YFT converter, but so far no one knows how to edit or parse the files.

Breaking News!

OpenIV can edit RPF files (sort of; they need an ASI to get it to work). It has zero support for YFT, nor does any modeling tool. It has very limited editing capabilities at the moment.
