Good afternoon everyone! I am trying to install GTA IV on my new computer, which I built. It is running windows 8.1 64 bit with 8gb of RAM, AMD Fx 8 core processor 4.0 ghz. I got a digital download from Amazon, but after it installs Rockstar social club it won't install the game. It says this version of windows is not supported. I am really lost as what to do. There are several different forums and support topics that deal with this issue- but they all have different ways and some negate each other. The majority that I have seen are for windows 7. If anyone had this issue and can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I got GTA IV just for LCPDFR, and I can't wait to play it. Also, I believe I have the most current version of Games for Windows Live.

It finally installed, but when I attempt to launch it from rockstar social club, it says "GTA Stopped responding" any ideas on how to fix that now? Either im unlucky or technology isn't my friend today.

Ok, I didn't quite use windows XP SP3, I used the compatibility troubleshooter, which ran It in Vista SP2, and now it seems to be installing. I am going to update it from Rockstar, I assume and that should fix the rest of the issues

Now that it is installed, it just crashes, saying "GTAIV has stopped responding" right after I launch it through social club. Any ideas?

Glad to hear it finally installed.

Now, try going into your root directory (where your GTAIV.exe is located) and right clicking on your GTAIV.exe, then making it compatible with Windows 7

I finally got it to work a few days ago. (Just now had time to update this). I ended up contacting Rockstar, who said to uninstall everything and reinstall in compatability mode, like you said, but update it before I attempt to launch it the first time. That seemed to do the trick.

Just got one more question, which isn't related to this topic, but what mod would give me better graphics and uniforms and better cars? right now I only have LCPDFR and I was wondering what other mods would supplement that good?

Thanks again for your help.

I'm using the 'Smooth ENB' and GTA V policecars from here, and my game looks like this currently
