I was wondering if anyone's steam did an automatic update and they can't open it anymore? Happened to me, I run steam, goes through the stupid update thing, and Bam! Failed to load SteamUI.dll.

 

This apparently means I can't play GTA IV because loading it without steam causes the game to crash without even opening. What should I do?

Run the game through the .exe in your directory.

Try rebooting your PC, Steam f*cks up sometimes. And as iansonwheels stated, don't bother going through Steam to launch GTA, just go to C:Program FilesSteamsteamappscommonGrand Theft Auto IVGTA IV, you'll find the .exe there, you can just run it as an administrator and bam, it'll work just fine without Steam even working.

 

 

Don't use the regular .exe, GTAIV.exe, 

use LaunchGTAIV.exe, and make sure to run it as an admin., of course

Just checked, didn't get an update.

If you don't plan on doing anything Steam-related for th enxt few minutes, I'd recommend validating cache.

Suggestion for the future: Use your Steam install as your vanilla/backup directory, and create a new folder for your modified save (I have 3)

Thats exactly what I was doing.. Running it through launchgtaiv.exe. It crashes on startup. Anyway, my hard drive apparently got stuffed up. Windows apparently detected an error and decided to restart to repair the hard drive and it worked!

Windows actually did something ****ing useful for once!

Steam is extremely glitching for me but as others have said, if you have the mod, you shouldn't launch the game through steam anyways. You should use the LaunchGTAIV.exe
