I have no idea why the directory would be what he listed unless it's a pirated copy and the r-tard who uploaded it though it was made by 2K games.

That's actually quite a good point because someone else has another thread with the same problem. It'd be strange that both people want to put all their games in their 2k directory.

First of all, is there anything in a folder called rockstar games/grand theft auto iv in your program files folder?

Then;

We need to make sure that the same folder (in your case, /2k games/grand theft auto iv/) that includes gtaiv.exe, launchgtaiv.exe and all the other files and folders that gtaiv needs to run also has the following files inside:

scripthook.dll

scripthook (text document)

scripthookdotnet.asi

scripthookdotnet

You can just search that up, go to Start, and in the search box type up Rockstar or Grand Theft Auto IV. If there is a file, then that's good.

But I'm trying to figure out if he has installed something in there instead of where his actual gta is installed.

Hm as long as you have the .dill and the .asi files they should work... The other two are log files if I understand correctly.

So you are telling me they are definitely in what we call your root directory? The one that contains 'activation', common, manuals, pc, scripts and support links folders? As well as lots of executable files including launchgtaiv.exe?

And you have no other /grand theft auto iv/ folders in program files anywhere that might contain some of the files that should be in your /2k games/grand theft auto iv/ folder?

This will not necessarily work as program files are not included in theses results by default.

Well I'm back to running out of ideas then. It seems to be a commonality with people that for some reason have a version of the game that installed in /2k games/

When you go into the game normally, you still have to sign into Rockstar Social Club? And Games for Windows Live? And you can play ranked multiplayer matches?

"When i press alt + p nothing happens"

Nah bro, I got this.

Ah, I see. I looked at Spooky's post above mine where he said that he couldn't get into the police station and thought it was the guy receiving help from us. I didn't realise it was someone trying to hijack the thread. sorry for the confusion.

Your best bet is to uninstall GTA and delete the old program folder. Then reinstall GTA but change the installation directory when asked during the install to the following: C:Program FilesRockstar GamesGrand theft auto IV It won't let you browse for it, because it hasn't been created yet so you may have to type it into the box.

I would suggest buying a disk version of this game. When I bought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from Impulse I noticed they made a 2K folder and then they put the game in that folder. As for what could be in his directory, could be something causing the mod to not work properly. I know when I bought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas they had quite a bit of files in there that were not related to the game at all and it was their own thing. So my guess would be maybe one of the files that Impulse gives you is causing it to not work properly. I am not sure but that's my guess.
