Using car mods in-game?

Featured Replies

Hey!

Don't want to sound like an idiot or noob, but i've managed to put all the files needed for modded cars into the game through Spark IV, but how do I actually get to use the car i've modded in the game. I've installed a few Police Car files, so how do I play using that police car?

Start up the mod, Drive down to the station, Go on duty, Select player model, Walk out side, Select Car model, Done.

Or you can use Simple Native Trainer: http://www.gtagaming.com/downloads/gta-iv/script-mods/2115

So for example, I have added a new Police car, not replaced the old ones, just added a new one. When I'm at the station and go on duty, will the car i've added be there to select? Just another question, when I added the modded Police Car files, there were 'templates.png' in the folder with it to. Are these meant to be put somewhere?

When you mod cars in GTA IV, you replace a default car model. Adding an entirely new car would mean you edited your vehicles.img, carcols.dat and cargrp.dat. If you just used sparkIV to import a .wtd and .wtf file, you did not add a new car but just replaced a default car. Just go on duty and when you select your car, the modded one will come up instead of the default one. Regarding the template file, just leave that alone. That's just something for people who want to use the model to make their own mod.

Thanks a lot. So I need to rename then to 'police.wtf' for example which will replace the original Police car?

Exactly. So say for instance you want to change the police cruiser, just import the police.wtd and police.wtf with SparkIV, save and rebuild and that will replace the police cruiser with whatever mod you used. Make sure to make a backup of your vehicles.img though, just in case. Also, if you have a car mod that has 4 textures, make sure to enable multiple liveries support for all the textures to appear in the game by doing this:

1)go to "Grand Theft Auto IVcommondata"

2)Open "vehicles.ide" with notepad

3)find the line with the name of the model, in this case police

4)Add "+livery" at the end of that line

Hope I solved your question.
