Halogen Michigan State Police

Featured Replies

I hear ya.  Personally, I like the UFO landing lights.  I got pulled over for speeding a month ago and this Tahoe looked like something out of Close Encounters...though that was pretty cool.  I told the cop that I was unsure if I was being pulled over by police or if a UFO just landed behind me...he laughed and let me go.

The MSP I see on I-696 all the time have the gum-ball on top and two front grill LEDs and two in the back window.  That's it.  The MSP that pulled me over in Mackinaw city for speeding in July was in a Charger and had the gum-ball on top and I think only two LEDs in the back window.  I'm not sure if the additional LED are standardized by the MSP or not.

Haha! Funny story, I gotta tell 'ya :P

Well. Maybe they're allowed to buy extra LED's to their patrol car?

  • I'm saying MOST of the younger generations now have no appreciation for tradition, or using a old concept with a newer touch. Like MSP is doing with old school gumdrop with full led's. Let me tell you

  • If I'm not mistaken, BxBug's older CVPIs and Tahoe's use the older Unity Beacons. At the moment, I'm not a 100% sure, I think GPM is down... but check Bug's downloads towards the last pages.

  • snapped a picture of a Michigan state police Tahoe on a tow truck in iowa at my local walmart last summer was pretty weird seeing this in iowa

How do their cars handle better than any normal CVPI?

Vic to Vic, you wouldn’t notice much… especially at low speeds. At high speeds, IMHO, MSP vehicles tend to handle better in tight cornering maneuvers. The Unity Beacons aerodynamics allows for less air drag around the surface, compared to most standard lightbars. MSP also fine tunes (in-house) all their patrol vehicles beyond the standard manufactures police packages.

MSP collects a lot of vehicle handling/performance data, trust me on that. MSP is also regarded as one of the country's (along with Los Angeles County Sheriff) leading authority in vehicle performance evaluations and testing.

You're one of the first. Almost nobody likes Michigan SP's cars...

Let me tell you guys if you were to travel in multiple cities, counties, or states every department most likely has the same light bar or similar features it just gets boarrrrrrrrrring. At least they like to be different!

Actually, if I'm not mistaken I think the MSP had already upgraded to a new version of the light that replaces that Halogen bulb with a LED module. It still retains the gumball look though, just upgrades it to a more modern set up (and if I read correctly, should help reduce the strain on the batteries.

Also count me in with the folks that just absolutely LOVES the look of the MSP cruisers. I hope they continue on with the look.

I love the MSP cars with the bubble light as said before it is tradition and it's very unique I see them all the time running I-75 also along Southfield I've started seeing them there quite often now.

The LED modifications are a fantastic continuation of tradition merged with technology. BUT an ELS version of the old Halogen with nothing else but some wig wags and tail flashers would be a great addition to the game. The look of the halogen orbs swinging around versus the "digital" sharp signaling of an LED light is interesting not only in single player but would offer a lot to clans as well.
