LCPDFR 1.0 Game Crashing "GTA IV not working"

Hello

 

The most recent time I tried to play GTA IV the game crashes right as it is loading the game on the black screen with the specific mission you last saved on the bottom right corner just saying "GTA IV has stopped working" and "windows is checking for a solution"  I read around and it said to take out AdvancedHookInit.dll and .asi and it actually does start the game every time along with starting LCPDFR but then as I read that advancedhookInit.dll and .asi had to do with the tazer I tried to manually install the tazer and might has messesed something up.  I moved the 3 files in the manual install download under pc>>lcpdfr>>>and then the 3 definitions, weapons and models file to my gta4 directory under pc>>>>lcpdfr.  Now when I start the game it wont start LCPDFR using the normal alt P.  I did thourgholy read the manual installation instructions for the tazer file and was able to do step one but was not able to do the following:

 

MAKE A BACKUP OF commondatadefault.dat
ADD TO commondatadefault
.dat
WEAPONINFO platform
:/lcpdfr/weaponinfo.xml
AFTER THE LINE
WEAPONINFO common
:/data/weaponinfo.xml

 

I was unable to open the default.dat file and had some trouble finding out what kind of application can open that.

 

Also I did just reinstall the game and the only mod other than LCPDFR is ELS that I have installed.

You can use notepad to open all of the files, more info here:

If it says the file is read only when you try to edit it, go to the parent folder (common), and right click on its properties.  Then uncheck the box that says readonly, and click OK when it says to apply to all files and subfolders.

Ok I have uncheck the read only for the Common folder  but still dont understand how I should be able to use notepad for the other files the first one that needs to be modified is a text file and the next one default.dat wont open with notepad it keeps telling me to find a application that opens this it also wont let me open it by open with>>>notepad.

It will if you tell it to open with notepad.  Alternatively you can open notepad from your start menu, and then click File > Open > and select it.  Make sure you change this:

so that you can see the files in the browser, instead of just seeing text files.
