Unable To Properly Install (I've Read The Stickied Topics) - Unable To Make Gta Iv Folder Non-Read Only

Featured Replies

Hello,

Thank you for the help up front.

So I downloaded the install file, pointed it to my directory, and the install fails. Upon searching, I see there are multiple topics on the issue at hand, and then attempt to troubleshoot with the help of these posts.

I have all four green checkmarks, that is not my issue. I then move on to the "Make sure your GTA IV is not Read-Only".

Ok, so I attempt to do this. I un-check the box and make it apply to all sub files and folders. It goes through it's little process, and then says done!  Ok great!

Well, install fails again. And I go back and find that the folder is re-checked as read only. I then go into the advanced properties and make account the owner of the file instead of "Administrators" and ensure I have full control, etc.

Once I do this, I again try to change the folder only to fail again. I then turn to an elevated CMD prompt and attempt to make the file un-Read Only. This appears to work at first, but upon running the installer, it fails again. And when returning to the folder it is still checked.  :wallbash:

So - here I am. I am not sure what to do from this point forward. Do I need to copy the install to a separate directory? I don't see what difference that would make.

My C: drive is a SSD, but I have my steam library junctioned to my D: HDD. I did this before steam supported having a separate library, and it is in an old "junctioned" folder, not the steam management tool. This shouldn't make any difference though, should it?

Thanks for your help!

Have you disabled UAC? UAC is a part of Windows Security introduced with Windows Vista. It will not allow the user (you) to do any change to the computer without giving a warning message. It’s quite annoying and if you have some common sense, it will not be a danger to disable it.

Disabling UAC:

1. Open the start menu.
2. Type “UAC” (without quotes)
3. Pull the “slider” all the way down and accept the changes. A reboot may be required in some rare cases.

By the way Windows 7

And yes, I disabled UAC a long time ago. Thank you for the idea though!

Insanely fast response, lol.

Yes I have.

I am running as Admin

I am unable to disable read only on my GTA IV folder no matter what I try (probably my issue)

All 4 Green ticks present.

It's exactly what it sounds like: A tazer to taze suspects. You can still use it without installing the model, but you will be missing the model (duh).
