im trying to update my gta iv and it wont let me. this is what comes up

what does this mean?

 

Are you using a legal copy of the game and/or patch.....? Are you using this patch? (http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200145406-Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-Patch-7-Title-Update-v-1-0-7-0-English-1-0-6-1-Russian-1-0-5-2-Japanese-). 

yes i bought the game from steam and it is downloaded from steam and i got the patch from the rockstar website

Then you don't need the patch, it's already installed. 

EDIT: Can you list the contents of your GTA IV folder? Screenshot?

Well, it all looks good. Bottom line, you don't need the patch if you are using the steam version. You are all set. 

when i checked the propertis of the game and went to details the product version is at 0.1.0.0

Okay, that's weird I admit. Can you go to Steam, right click Grand Theft Auto IV, Properties > Local Files > verify integrity of game cache.

It will redownload any missing files. After that, you can right click GTAIV.exe and post a screencap of the description (Use the print-screen button).

No problem, I'll admit I am a little bit puzzled, that message does not make any sense. 

its still doing the same thing i dont understand

As far as I know, the launcher is always listed as 0.1.0.0, and only GTAIV.exe is listed as the version you would have (1.0.7.0). Make sure you check that you're verifying the right file...
