Diagnostic tool ran

I browsed over the post above but nothing really jumped out at me. Can anyone look at the below text and tell me if I missed something that could be causing my game crashes?

The Braveheart policing script. I did just learn something rather interesting. While the game last crashed it was running very slow. I noticed I had several instenses on svchost.exe running. I rebooted and they were still there. One of witch was using like 500,000K. I stopped all the processes associated with them and just played the game for well over an hour without a single glitch. Is anyone familiar with the high memory usage of the process causing game issues?

............ svchost is a system process and should never be stopped. You can cause damage to your OS installation that way. (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/what-is-svchostexe-and-why-is-it-running/).

Does your game crash after like 10-45 minutes?

No more like 2 minutes, on the way to the first call out.

I didn't see a mention in there of damaging anything. Most of the services can be stopped under the process that is using a lot of memory but a few would not allow it. I would not interfere with all the svchost processes, just the one or two hogging the memory. Is 500mb a lot for one process? I notice GTA IV on my system uses about 1 gig of memory, I have 4gigs installed and 1gig on my video card, the Diagnostic tool only sees 3.25gigs apparently. My brother tells me with this computer and 32bit OS Windows might see 4gigs but won't use it.

So as we are sitting here right now Vista is using 1.594Gigs with just 2 Chrome tabs and the OS running, Add 1Gig for GTA and another .5 for the svchost and we are up to 3gigs of memory use just to run GTA, that leaves .25 free according to this diagnostic tool, Could my problem possibly be coming from running out of memory? In the GTA graphics menu it tells me it is only using about 250mb of memory. I am not sure where it gets is't info and or how it is messured though. Maybe it is talking abpout 250mb of video memory from the video card. That beign said with 4gigs on my MB and 1gig on my card totaling 5gigs on an OS that will only use maybe 3gigs is my video card memory even being used at all? I hope all this makes sense. While I know my way around a computer I am by far not smart enough to fix a lot of this stuff.

My brother recommended getting rid of Vista all together. He owns a computer repair business and think I would be much happier if he installed Windows 7 64bit on my computer. With my upgrade capabilities on this 6 year old system I am worried that the performance gain will not be worth it. What is your opinion of Vista32 or 764 running on the same system specs? I did already check and mine is capable of running a 64bit OS so that is not a concern.

You should never interfere with Windows processes unless you are 100% sure you know what you are doing. 32 bit OS have a limit on the amount of RAM it can use, 64 bit can handle virtually infinite amount of ram. Are you using any commandlines to increase the avaible videomemory? Windows 7 is much better than Vista, hands down.

Create the file, add the lines I wrote above and run the game. Maybe it will help, I always run with it. I can try to explain the commands more in depth:

-percentvidmem 100 (Makes 100% of your videomemory available for GTA IV to use).
-nomemrestrict (No memory restrictions for GTA IV).

Well, we lasted almost 30 minutes before crashing that time HAHA. I did notice my strobes seemed to perform better in the city. Normally I like to spend my time on the mountain because of the lag LC causes.

Graphics are already at their lowest settings. One thing I just noticed, I have not been going to the station to go on duty, I have been forcing duty and simply spawning the cop and car. I wander if there is any knowledge of this causing problems. I have noticed a few changes since I started doing this for example the pull over script has a ton of errors as well as the spot light is completely non functional anymore.

I just read over your PDF guide and noticed i recommended a lot more in the commandline.txt is the guide out of date? Should I add all that or just what you recommended here?

Thanks for reading it, to begin with. You can add  the following lines (I am going to update the document soon, doing some major rewrites atm).

-renderquality 0 -shadowdensity 0 -texturequality 0 -viewdistance 0 -detailquality 0 -novblank -norestrictions -width 320 -height 240 -safemode -windowed -percentvidmem 100 -minspecaudio -novsync -renderquality 0 -frameLimit 0 -nomemrestrict

This will force the game to minimum settings.

Ok so with the other lines and these GTA on my system will run with the most memory and the least settings, if it still gives me trouble I would assume it's time for a new computer. Should a system with a dual core 2.8, 4 gigs or ram and a GeForce 9800GT be able to run the game good or am I at the lower end of being able to run it? i know my 1.6 2gig laptop won't even load GTA with NO mods.
