Can't install software

Featured Replies

So my problem is this: At the company I work as a IT-tech one of my co-workers installed the malware program called "Antivirus Security Pro". I removed it and everything was fine. I thought. It would seem I no longer can install software. I've tried all the basic solutions (rebooting, disabling uac, running as administrator, removing leftover files etc).

Now, with my user I can install and run the software. But with the other users account, it's not possible. Running the installed software causes a crash.

Note: Company policy restricts me from elevating the users rights to administrator level. But it worked previous to the malware being installed.

I'm thinking a complete wipe of the harddrive at this point. Any thoughts?

There's a difference between "I can't install any software" and "running THE installed software causes a crash". I'd rather think there is some bad stuff left or some runtimes have been damaged. I'd do a clean reinstall, otherwise you'll never know if there is not a small rest of the malware running.

Please do not PM me unless really necessary (knowing you helps). If you think you need my attention in a topic, tag me.

Sorry for being a bit unclear.

Thanks for your reply LMS, I will start the process after lunchtime. It's the universal solution to fixing anything related to windows!
