I am normally able to create a new layer over top of a template, fill it with black colour, then lower the opacity of the top layer to see where my stuff should go. Unfortunately, I cannot do this with several templates for some reason, as they do not slowly dissolve as they should, nut rather they "pop" into solid focus, with no happy medium. What am I doing differently with these templates over the others?

Are they Cj24/KevinDV templates?

When I import them, they come up as 'Indexed Colour' instead of RGB.

Change the colour mode to RGB and it should work.
