Updating Problems...

Featured Replies

Whenever I try and update GTA IV it starts to update, but then gives a message saying that it "couldn't open key (with a bunch of numbers), verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel". I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but it still doesn't work. Any tips??

No, like during the update process I receive the message and then it stops. Like it never fully updates the game. And yes, this is a legitimate copy

You could have just cropped it

Anyway, you're probably going to need to open that particular key in your registry and change the permissions. I strongly recommend making a backup of your registry before attempting this.

1. Hold the Windows key and press R to open Run.

2. Enter "regedit" without the quotation marks

3. Search (CTRL+F) for "B380454580315844FB71110100D03810" (No quotations)

4. Right click on "B380454580315844FB71110100D03810" on the left of the screen and click "Permissions" ('>)

5. Clicking through each user in the top box, ensure that all of the "Allow" tick boxes are ticked. ('>)

6. Click "advanced"

7. Ensure that "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" is ticked. ('>)

8. Press "Apply" and then "Yes"

9. Select the "Owner" tab

10. Select "Administrators" from the list of groups, noting that the "Current Owner" changes to Administrators.

11. Tick "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"

12. Press "Apply" and "Ok"

13. Close all dialogue boxes pressing apply where appropriate. Close RegEdit and retry the installation, ensuring that you run the installer as administrator.

Sorry, should have made that clearer.

1. Create a folder anywhere called "registry backup" or whatever you want

2. Hold the Windows key and press R to open Run.

3. Enter "regedit" without the quotation marks

4. Highlight "computer" at the top of the directory by clicking it once

5. Click "File" at the top left of the window and then click "export"

6. Navigate to the folder you made earlier

7. Enter a file name for the backup. Anything you want.

8. Click save

After you click save, a single file with the extension "registration entities" (.reg) will be placed into the folder. This contains your entire registry and can easily be restored if you break something.

I'm doing it but for some reason on the CREATOR OWNER, I tick all the boxes and click apply and okay but then I go back into it and they are unticked. All the rest stay ticked but the CREATOR OWNER
