Why does time go so fast?

Featured Replies

It seems like only yesterday i was in public school, just making friends and worrying about plans for hanging out in the summer. Now, It is the day before my last ever exam in High School, and all I am left with is this question: What did I get out of this to make it disappear so fast? I know that I can't stop time, and living in the moment is, a bit difficult for me, but does anybody have any hints or strategies for slowing time down? Even a little bit? That's all I ask. Today's the last time I will ever see these people I have known for over 16 years (even though they didn't notice me enough to put me in the yearbook or the graduating class portrait in the halls of the school).

The older you are, the more you realize that a single year is only a fraction of your life. If you're 20, for example, a single year would be 1/20 of your entire life, which is meh. When you are 8, a year is 1/8 of your life, which is pretty much a significant portion of it. Your brain thinks less of time as you get older because you've already lived so long, and the time passed in the present is insignificant compared to the time already spent in the past.

Years FLY when you get older, cherish the young years.

Although it might seem unfortunate now to leave highschool behind, you'll gain new friends and take on new challenges in life. With age comes experience and knowledge. I'm nowhere near the man I was four years ago and honestly, I wouldn't want to go back. I for one can't wait to graduate at my university in a few weeks time after four hard years of studying. There's no doubt I'll miss the life on campus, the partying and living independantly. However, starting my police academy training is something I look forward to and wouldn't want to miss for the world. I too have lost many friends on the way but it's this dream of mine that has kept me going. I hope to make many new friends in the academy.

I'm sure there's a future you dream of as well. Always try to set goals in life and work towards achieving them. It will make your time/life far more meaningful and rewarding.

As for slowing down time, I'm afraid that's not really possible. As wmai said, time flies, especially when you're having a good time. Try to make the best out of everything and always try to follow your dreams. Too many people out there are doing jobs they hate because they dropped out of school. Remember that you'll spend most of your life working. I sure as hell want to do something I enjoy doing and take great pride in.

"Dura lex, sed lex"

oh oh oh I have a scientific answer for this!

When you look back on a day multiply times it seems it went faster every time you think of it. But you are only thinking of a few things that happened, now if you think of little detail like lets say. Yesterday I was playing WAR-Z, I looked down at the clock it was 12PM then what seemed like a minute later it was 3 PM. Seemed like it went really really fast, tell I looked back on it and remembered all the little detail.Such as oh right I killed that guy and this zombie, I went to that town. I died, found a dead body ect... Its a little trick our brain plays on us...

That has to be the best answer here, +1. Thanks for your help guys.

Yes I look back at my childhood and think, it seems like no too long ago I was always running around until 9PM on summer nights with my friends. Now I think... two more years and I'll be getting my driver's license.. then paying my own insurance, then for food, then mortgage.. it just seems as you get older time goes much quicker. Try to enjoy life. Calm down a little bit, and have a little more fun.
