GTA IV has stopped working... ?

Featured Replies

LCPDFR downloaded and installed successfully, (gave me the "Press Alt P in game" message)

I tried to run the game as an administrator and the same message comes up "Grand Theft Auto IV has stopped working - A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have also tried the "LaunchGTAIV.exe" as well. It gives me the same message.

- Not using a crack

- Using 1.0.7.0.

- Running game as administrator

- Every GTA IV folder is NOT set to "read only"

- First Response.net.dll, and AdvancedHook.dll is in the GTA IV ROOT folder

- ScriptHook.dll, ScriptHookDotNet.asi and Dsound.dll are in the GTA IV ROOT folder (tried with Xlive.dll too)

- LCPDFR is in the SCRIPTS folder

- I have installed the most recent version of LCPDFR

- Installed the mentioned updates

Diagnoistics:

- CPU supported

- RAM supported

- .NET Framework 4.0 installed

- Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Installed

- GTA IV detected

I've watched and read over 20 videos and reviews on fixing the issue but none have worked. A credible and reliable solution suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

This is for GTA IV only. If I were to run the diagnostics on EFLC it says everything involving EFLC is "False" even though I do have all the items listed as "False"

That was for GTA IV only. Including the EFLC it is as follows:

I don't know why it says false after those items, I have them all.

EFLC - Version: 1,1,0,0 -> you have to update to 1.1.2.0 for EFLC

About the GTA IV report above, there is a problem, it should be way longer than those 9 lines.

EDIT : look at mine for example :

I updated it to 1.1.2.0 then when I ran the diagnostics it gave me a message saying "diagnostics has stopped working". I messed around with some other updates and moves dsound.dll around and ran the game, it didn't give me the "stopped working" message, a black box came up and it just stayed there for about 20 seconds then went away, but the game didn't open. So I just reinstalled the game and I'm going to try it all over again in a bit.

  • Author

Okay so I reinstalled the game, reinstalled LCPDFR without the taser and the game opened without any errors. I pressed "alt P" in game and nothing happened. So now I guess I'm onto a new problem

  • Author

Read only has been unchecked and applied to all. GTA IV is launched as admin.

Every file is as it should be, per: http://www.lcpdfr.com/forum-20/announcement-5-need-support-read-this-first/

All updates have been downloaded and installed.

The GTA IV runs, but all that happens when I press "alt p" is the screen gets fuzzy until I press "p" again.

Diagnostic report won't show, it runs, then a message comes up that says "Diagnostics has stopped working", then it closes.

I assigned toggle definition to another key, pressed "alp P" in game and still nothing happened except the screen shook for a second. But there still isn't a red circle outside of a police station or anything.

So now, once again the GTA IV stopped working completely and won't even let me run it. Just playing GTA without the LCPDFR was okay until it suddenly closed the game and said "fatal error". Now I am able to run the diagnostics though. The diagnostics report is the same as the last one I posted, except now where it says "EFLC - Version", it's blank. The only thing I've changed since the last diagnostics was that I installed the game with xlive.dll instead of dsound.dll. and I didn't install the taser. This is what allowed me to just play GTA... until a few hours ago.

So now I'm back to square one.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled GTA IV, LCPDFR, multiple times

I've done the updates from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718 , and http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

Tried the game with 1.0.7.0 and 1.1.2.0

Tried with LCPDFR 0.91 and LCPDFR 0.95 RC2-R2

Every single thing the "Need Support? Read This First" has been gone over, over 50 times, and every single thing is exactly as is should be.

Every single "false" item from the diagnostics report, I have in the EFLC folder (so I don't know why it's saying "False")

I've made sure all files are the most recently updated versions...

And I still don't know why "Alt P" didn't work even when GTA IV was up and running.

I'm completely baffled, not sure what else I can do.

If anyone can shed some light on the subject, I'm open to ideas. I don't care if you have to break it down to be "barney style" and give me instructions like I'm a 4 year old, I've spent so much time trying to get this to work, I'm very patient, but I just want to play LCPDFR.

No I didn't download it from steam.

BUT, I finally got LCPDFR working recently. The first time I ran it, it crashed, but it hasn't crashed since. The problems were:

- 1.0.7.0 wasn't running properly, I had to extract it and run some other files as administrator to get it to work.

- Reinstall the C++ 2010 Redistributable. (Apparently it was being installed as (x86) and not (x64).)

- And I had to download and install "Trainer V 6.5"

So now the diagnostics shows everything as "True", and it's not just the 9 lines as it was before.

Thank you for your help man, it is greatly appreciated!
