Following the success of our first race at the Daytona 500 this weekend, myself and NB have decided that we will gradually work our way through the 2013 season, trying our best to keep up with the actual league. We've been considering allowing others to join us as a 42 car grid of human players will be much more entertaining than a 40 car AI grid with two human players.

 

For now though, we'll be continuing to discuss the idea as we'd need people who can ideally handle the vehicle in pressured situations like a 3-wide draft-train at 200+ miles per hour.

Both drivers will be looking for a grid finish this evening to kickstart their fight for the title. N Bavnbek will be racing for Castrol & Whelen in the number 98 Ford Fusion Stock Car whilst P Harper will be attempting to restore CAT's reputation in the series in the number 31 Chevrolet Stock Car.

 

Qualifying Results (Table wasn't saved, so no AI results for this one)

Nicolai managed to nab a spot in the top five whilst Harper was pushed down to 21 in the Grid, taking the inside line on the green flag.

 

Race Details

Nicolai and Harper both fought very hard with eachother from the start, Harper nabbed Nicolai on lap three and managed to take pole. An incident involving the 28 car on turn two of lap 20 saw the first yellow flag of many.

 

On the restart, Nicolai retained his spot at the front of the grid whilst Harper dropped down to 32nd due to issues in his pitbox during the caution period. What followed was an intense climb up the grid for Harper who eventually managed to take 2nd behind Nicolai.

 

The pack remained tightly-knit together up until lap 92 when "The Big One" made an appearance and put fourteen cars into early retirement, Both racers managed to avoid this wreck although Nicolai was T-Boned by another vehicle as he left his pitbox which caused some aerodynamic issues with his vehicle, he gradually lost pace and ended up in the draft train of the five lead vehicles as Harper fought to hold his position in 1st from the closing 38 US Army car.

 

A Fuel Issue on lap 125 of the 200 lap race saw Harper's journey come to a very unfortunate end, a leak in his fuel line caused him to lose power and upon attempting to block the pack from overtaking, he was clipped by the 38 and sent into the wall on Turn 4. Nicolai continued his valiant battle up until 157 when he was clipped into the apron and spun, ruining his tires.

 

A very action packed race that was enjoyed by both the drivers and the spectators of the livestream coverage.

Via a bunch of mods, we use the latest Sprint Cup Carset (2012) and the latest tracks.

Race #2 - Phoenix International Speedway

Saturday 2nd March

 

The series moves onto Phoenix International Speedway for its second race of the season. After the results of last week's Daytona 500, both driver's head into the weekend with zero points.

Both have been ruthlessly practicing for the past week, attempting to get to grips with the track and the new cars that have been recently released.

 

Practice

Both drivers have been reporting issues with the cars when heading into turn three of this very difficult track, Harper reported that he cannot judge the speed correctly and thus ends up hitting the wall whilst Nicolai stated that due to the amount of braking being needed on the corner, the tail of the car tries to spins outwards which causes him to lock his wheels up and spin.
