Thanks guys :)

If you can, use photoshop. You dont have to learn advanced computing to use it, you can just watch a few tutorials (there are loads on youtube) and gain skill by using it over time. Its fairly easy to use once you get the hang of it.

What version of photoshop would you recommend?

You can edit a saved picture in your PC, just making right click and in "Edit with GIMP", or you can take a picture from google, click "copy" and in GIMP, go to File and the first option: Create from Clipboard - or something called similar, since I don't have it in English I'm not sure if that's the exact name.

Sure, using the Free Selection Tool:

(the one selected in the picture)

Make the contour of the badge with that line, when you're done, what you've outlined becomes a selection, so you can a) copy the badge where you are making the skin b) copy the badge and past it in a new document (using what I told you in the previous post), so you can edit it or save the badge for other times if you need it, or c) in the "select" menu press "invert" and delete the backround.

Also, when I'm working with badges taken from pictures, sometimes if they need more color I go to "colors" and "hue-saturation", and I adjust the lightness and saturation, so the badge looks better.

And don't forget to use layers, they help!

No prob, I'm glad to help

Now, for your question, for example, if the car is gonna be black, with the doors and roof white, first create a new layer and paint it with the main color, in this case black, then, turn the transparency of that layer down and create a new one; in that new layer using the Free Selection Tool and seeing the template make the shape of the doors and paint them white.

You should check Lonestranger tutorial, it has good tips for beginners  Here is the link: http://www.lcpdfr.com/page/tutorials/index.action/_/texturing-tips-and-tutorials/texturing-tips-and-tricks-r8
