How to add ELS when adding custom vehicle

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I got a quick question: How can I add the ELS or where do I put the ELS files for vehicles which have ELS?

I'm not downloading the mods automatically via the site but doing it manually via the "Downloads" Section in LML and then the bottom function "+".

I already got the vehicle in the game and working, even put the ELS file in the map where I'm downloading it from but the ELS doesn't work.

I would appreciate any help.

Cheers 🙂

The ELS xml files usually go in ELS/pack_default.

Thanks for the reply.

That's where I always have them but it didn't work in the game, I thought it's a different path for LML

Unfortunately, LML cannot load ELS configs from a self contained folder but they need to be loaded by ELS from its default path. Perhaps it is something I could look into in the future, though. That being said, for now ELS configs will always work the same, no matter how you installed the car.

Sorry to bump this old topic. I am looking into teaching my YT users into installing everything with XML and wanted to contribute with install.xmls but I am seeing LML is a little limited on that regard.

If I am understanding correctly, it works mostly to load modifications designed for update.rpf (such as vehicles, carvariations, peds, peds components, sounds, textures, etc), but for files that go in the root/subfolders such as ELS configs or regular .dll's or plugins for LSPDFR, can be downloaded for the first time but not enabled/disabled.

With that in mind, would I be correct to say LML would not be able to disable/enable these ELS .xmls as they would just be placed upon install and have to replace them if need to switch car?

I ask these questions as I am trying to find the paths of least resistance to share with users and see if we can keep our LSPDFRs easier to customize and avoid so many mods folder re-creations.

Yes, LML is very much designed for file modifications, not for other types of mods. The main reason being it is relatively easy for LML to control how/when file mods get loaded because it loads those itself, whereas other mods are loaded differently and not by LML.  The "GameFolder" system for first time placement I mostly added as a somewhat crude way to make ELS support better, but as you pointed out, it does not allow you to enable or disable those mods. This is because those files are loaded by ELS and not LML.

Thank you very much for that information. Is there a way we can specify the ELS file using GameFolder if for example the model dev ends up placing the .ytf/.ytd and .xml's for VCF in the same folder?

I tried using for example:
<GameFolder subFolder="ELS/pack_default">BCSO Mega Pack By Scorpionfam/vehicles/2011 CVPI/SHERIFF.xml</GameFolder>

And that allows the game to load but does not place the .xml in the pack_default folder.

I also tried:
<GameFolder subFolder="ELS/pack_default">BCSO Mega Pack By Scorpionfam/vehicles/2011 CVPI</GameFolder>

But that did not allow the game to start, or so it appears.

I think in order to streamline a little bit more the usage of LML, it might be a good idea to have those gamefiles be re-pasted once you enable the mod again (so that if another replaced those, you get them replaced again). Obviously I'd warm the user that the functionality exists this way, but it would not require to copy and paste it manually from the folders everytime you disable/enable the chars for different roleplay scenarios.

So it does look like most vehicle modders with ELS will include the VCF file inside the same folder as their model/textures. Is it supported to run the GameFolder and just pick the .xml file? I tried it as above but did not ask me to install upon first installing. I did try asking a developer if they could separate these files but that definitely did not go well.

Hah, I can imagine. I can see about making it so that you can add files in addition to folders in the tag and that those are then copied. Does that seem like a good solution?

That would definitely help! I think that is the last one challenge I am having right now from being able to create install.xml's for all the variety of folder/file structures, apart from the 255 limit which depends on the developer and might just consider it a lost cause, lol.
