Asking for Help

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

If you don't know me, I'm Jeff. I do Tech Support for the site and help people out with the issues they are having.

There are some things I want to point out before you do post a support topic. (I'm not sure if someone has already posted something like this but I'll do it anyways)

  • Attach your RagePluginHook.log NOT your Crash Report. The Crash Report does give the RagePluginHook.log on the bottom but the info on top is just irrelevant.
  • Post in the correct forum. Don't go asking for help in Vehicle Modifications Showroom. The forum names quite easy to understand.
  • Search your problem up. People who post a support forum normally don't even search it up. The answer might be there with one Google Search.
  • Read the pinned posts in the forum. There are a couple of pinned posts on every forum and I suggest you read them.
  • This might be a little controversial but don't question what we ask you to do. If we say 'rename your plugins folder to _plugins' don't ask 'why? Won't that disable my plugins?' We ask you to do the things we do because we want to help you diagnose your problem. Feel free to disobey us when we say something but note that it won't help you solve your issue.
  • Read through the log. If you can't it's fine, we can do it. Normally, crashes come with a error message. A common one is System.AccessViolation. This is quite easy to understand. The System can't access a file or it is blocked from accessing a file.

I would just say the whole Crash Report is irrelevant. Isn't even worth looking at. Just the RPH Crash Log.

That's easier said than done. 😂

Again, same as above. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Although, it certainly would be helpful if people did read it and do a bit of searching before posting to the forums.

Help us to help you!

Indeed.

That is the purpose of my post. To try and persuade the horse to taste the water.

Indeed it would be.

One thing I wish people would understand is, how do you expect us to help you fix something if you haven't given any specific information about it?

"Help, my game won't launch"
"Help, LSPDFR crashes"
"Help, it doesn't work"

What do these even mean?  Imagine if you took your car to the shop and just told the mechanic "it doesn't work."  Do you expect them to know where to look for the problem and fix it?

People need to realize the reason other people can help them at all is because at some point, they've done the Googling for them.  People having issues can fix their own problems, they just need to know how to ask questions and use Google.

My biggest pet peeve is when they say "i need help" and dont give any other information. At least when they say LSPDFR crashes or game crashes, I can either ask for an RPH Crash Log or for them to rename mods to _mods and test. But yeah, I totally get ya.

Good luck with that! There are a decent amount of people out there that just want the fix to be handed to them and dont want to put the time into doing the research to fix the issue.

Help us to help you!
