[DISCUSSION] Rename PEDs using Twitch API

Featured Replies

Hello forum, I think it's the first topic that I made, so I'm sorry about anything that might be wrong. Let me know so I  can learn things and get going.
Also, this is only a topic for discussion in general about the idea I had, it's not a request for a plugin, mod or support request.

So, I'm not a streamer but just an active viewer on Twitch. I like a lot watching streams where they play a game that have Twitch integration (Marbles on Stream, The Universim, etc), and some that even improvise including chat usernames into their games (Rimworld, Death Road to Canada, etc).
I also notice that there's an great demand on roleplay or immersion when it comes to LSPDFR. So I took both things together and started thinking:

What if LSPDFR or any PED name generation plugin could generate their names taking them from Twitch chat?
I think this can add a lot of immersion if the streamer ask questions to the chat or that specific user while on a Traffic Stop, and sort out what to do depending on the roleplay that comes up on it. A bunch of different situations can happen, but my point is the entertainment perspective of it. How fun would it be to, not only the viewers, but also the streamer on having a feature like that?

What's the ups and downs of that?

The issue I have with this is that the ped names would then be usernames instead of first and last names, unless the viewers username was their first and last name or a fake first and last name. It would be fun way for streamers to interact with their community, but completely break any kind of realism.

Three other things to think about:

1) Not everyone would consent to having their username in game.

2) Depending on the streamer, you might end up getting the names of people who only view, but never chat.

3) Have you seen a Twitch chat?  Some people have inappropriate, trolly or flat out stupid names.  Do you really want Exar_The_Sexar, TFOKatarn, necropanda and whatever else name to be brought up in a game that can be seen by others?

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

Well, I guess would be a sacrifice worth of it, considering the ammount of content that comes with it. Already saw several streamers just laughing about when backups arrive crashing on everything xD

1) You have a point about consent, although I don't see a reason why they wouldn't.

2) Of course, on that case, just do the normal thing that everyone does. That can also happen on making a Traffic Stop with a PED called "Nightbot" xD

3) And yes, would definitely need a filter for that kind of thing.

I honestly don't think so, since a lot of LSPDFR streamers look for realism over interaction with their community.

The question is...who makes the filter? Twitch or the Plugin Dev? And even more, how would it work with a large audience?

I certainly like the appeal of giving options to allow a streamer to engage more with the community. Perhaps a way for the Companion App to be shared with viewers? Give them options to pick a new callout? Allow them to force suspects to shoot? I feel like there are some things we could do, but I would like to hear what everyone else thinks.

Please do not PM me unless really necessary (knowing you helps). If you think you need my attention in a topic, tag me.

An option maybe would be nice. I just wonder how many streamers would use it and how certain names could be restricted. Possibly the requirement of donating to have your name added.

True, might be the reason why I never saw them recurring to other related games for this purpose. It's a very small niche of streamers that would use that kind of feature. Plus, I got to say when realistic roleplay is a need, I see them playing in RP servers instead of LSPDFR. I might be wrong on that tho.

Good question. I guess the filter answer would be code-related? Not sure, I'm not a dev in any way.

I have no idea on how could work on large audiances. There's no way the streamer can highlight a specific user on a specific situation, right?

I totally agreed with that, also a good way to go to interact with their community without going into the issue of names against TOS.

Or getting subscribers only. I know Twitch API have that. Not to mention that users that usually subscribes doesn't have names against TOS. They're still there, but way less than those who doesn't.

Potentially....it would just be down to see on what side that would be integrated, Twitch or LSPDFR.
