I have been thinking about working on some script mods for GTA 4 and I need some help. I am a n00b when it comes to scripts. I just know how to install them. Can anyone teach me or show me a tutorial about how to make scripts or can somebody assist me in creating one? I really want to learn how to create a script because I have some great ideas for scripts that I have not seen anybody make before. One is a script that will change the likelihood that somebody would break the law, whether it would be running a red light, speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving (maybe?), failure to use turn signal, and others. And it would effect peds as well. Someone might be drunk, attack another pedestrian and possibly kill them, jacking a vehicle either parked or with a driver, and others as well. And i might add this to the same script or make it two separate scripts but it would make it that random accidents might happen, either you witness the accident or you would receive a call out about an accident and you would drive to the scene and there would be an accident scene with a random number of vehicles that could be changed, and you would either be first on scene or there would be either EMTs or firefighters or both already there. And you might have to give first aid, check IDs, investigate the scene and take pictures and document the accident, call for tow truck (maybe pair with the Police Helper mod?), set up barricades and cones, direct traffic, give a breathalyzer test to check for DUI and make arrests as needed, assist the EMTs or firefighters, possibly pursue a hit-n-run driver, and other things.

If someone can help me in bringing these ideas to reality, that would be amazing.

And my last thing, I need to know how to use the ingame script console to abort a specific script. I know how to abort all running scripts but I want to know how to abort a specific one and how to restart it after aborting it. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Sorry if it is really long.

Start with the basics, Visual Studio 2010, also, you could try google, writing scripts is no new thing so there is lot's of tut's out there.

I think your ideas are great (in theory)! However, I think a lot of what your suggesting may not be as awesome in practice. Mainly because GTA IV is a very buggy port to PC. So when a ton of things are spawned into the game often times you might have missing textures, script crashes, and a littany of other issues.

I would imagine some folks would be hesitant to help with this because of some of the other mods currently out there do a few of these things (VDH Policehelper for example) and from what I've heard there is a lot more in the works. I would suggest instead of trying to re-invent the wheel maybe just reach out to the folks who are producing quality mods and see if they would be able to take you under their wing and teach you some basic scripting stuff. Then, ultimately you would be able to produce your own mods?

I hope too. But like I was saying, I have no idea where to start. In order to create this script, i would have to know some things, which I don't. And thats what I was asking. I must say I don't understand the rududnacy in some of the things you want in a script. A lot of the things you seek are already covered in several scripts that are available now or planned by others for the future...

Not really. Go back and read my idea for my script. I haven't seen a script like this before so that's why I want to make this.
