User Uploaded Content ToS

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question.

Some user uploaded content have a section for ToS, and it normally says something of the line of “By downloading this you agree to the terms”, and lists the terms. Can the creators actually enforce or have their own ToS? I know some people say they their content can’t be used in a FiveM server, is that valid? I know in the registration terms for lspdfr it says that any content uploaded is free of copyright, so I don’t think the creators have power over distribution and stuff like that if they are willingly surrendering their copyright?

I don’t know, I’m not a legal expert just curious because I could definitely see some conflict of interests.

Authors retain copyright on their files, we ask that people don't upload work that is copyrighted if they don't have permission to do so from the original author. It's a complicated legal topic, especially when the work is derivative, but out of respect alone you definitely should follow the terms the author has set on content they have provided you.

If you want to use their content in a way they haven't described, you should get in touch with them to check if your use is allowable.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
