    A BART Police officer died after being shot by another officer while performing a probation search at a residence in Dublin Tuesday afternoon, according to BART officials.
    The officer was the first to be killed while in the line of duty in the BART Police Department's history.
    The shooting occurred at around 1:03 p.m. at an apartment complex on Dougherty Road and Park Sierra in Dublin, according to a statement from BART police.
    He was taken Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley where he succumbed to his injuries, according to a statement from BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey and BART General Manager Grace Crunican.
    "BART has been informed that one of our officers has died from wounds sustained during a shooting earlier today," said the statement. "The entire BART organization is deeply saddened by this tragic event and we ask the public to keep the officer's family in its thoughts and prayers."
    Investigators have learned at that another BART police officer was responsible for the shooting, according to an official from the Alameda County Sheriff's Department.
