Hi there. I'm using a disk version of GTA IV to avoid the stupid 'complete edition' over at steam, which the disk version is 'updated' to 1.0.7.0. after it installs. I have the most recent version of the 'windows prerequisites', and have tried both the installer, and manual installations, both on fresh installs of GTA IV with no other modifications. I have set every folder's 'read-only' ticks to off. Launch GTA IV will not launch as administrator, because apparently 'an admin prevented this', even though i am 'the system admin'. Got to love windows. GTA IV.exe runs but tells me to use Launch GTA IV.
With Xliveless in, the game launches as normal but the loader script fails. In this instance, you can continue vanilla gameplay.
With dsound in, the game will not even launch due to it claiming that it cannot edit a file.
additionally, i took a LCPDFR.loader file from a backup that use to work on steam (before they messed everything up) and popped it in the file too. It, as you can predict, wasn't useful.
If at all possible, i'd prefer to use Xliveless over dsound, so i don't have to do the first mission over and over again. i've probably done it a hundred times too many.
I'm not entirely sure how i got to this point. I've been playing this mod for years across multiple PCs, installing it numerous times, hell, was playing it this week and wasn't even experiencing this issue. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated, have a good day.
