After the shut down of local manufacturing, the New South Wales Police Force chose to purchase the 'Authority Pack' BMW 530d for traffic and highway patrol duties. Unlike Authority Pack BMWs from other parts of the world such as in its native continent, Europe, the NSWPF cars are fully fledged BMWs vehicles and come with all the bells and whistles that could be found on its civilian counterparts, such as heat seaters, adaptive headlights, a remote operation tailgate, a 16-speaker Harmon-Kardon stereo system with a 600W output and a 12.3" iDrive display. They come equipped with the M-sport package, including performance brakes, 19" wheels and a range of cosmetic items.
 
From May 2018, 4 fleet demonstrators (FLT200-FLT203) were trialed by highway patrol officers around the state with resounding praise and acceptance. These FLT cars can be easily identified by their unique all black 19" M-Sport wheels, while all future cars came with polished wheel faces. After finishing their state-wide tour, the vehicles were assigned to highway patrol units, with FLT201 replacing the outgoing STH207. While highway patrol cars traditionally had a lifespan of a maximum of 3 years or 90,000km before being auctioned off to the public, it is expected for the BMWs to remain in service for longer due to the unlimited kilometer warranty offered by BMW, while Ford and Holden only offered 3years/100,000km.
