Hi everyone! My story is slightly long because I've spent a lot of trial and error and searching these forums. Please bear with me because I really hope you can help.
I had a crappy computer but I wanted GTA IV. I used to watch LCPDFR videos rather religiously while at work because.... I hated my job. I bought a copy of GTA IV in 2012 and crossed my fingers that it would work on my computer.
It didn't. So, I waited two years before I could afford a brand new high tech cooly-cool Alienware, which I received on Friday. GTA IV was my first installation.
It works perfectly, so beautiful, I've killed like 200 people already. But after about eight straight hours of senseless violence, I decided earlier this evening that it was time to install LCPDFR and try to combat thugs like me. That was about five hours ago, still no launch. Here's how it went.
I went to this website, found the download for LCPDFR 1.0b. Looks like pure awesome in a zip file. Automatic downloader, bam bam, it's in, I picked the dsounds.dll because I didn't know what GFWL was (now that I know, I want the xliveless one), we moved on, everything's good. We go to configure and.... Diagnostics Tool has crashed. I dig around in the program files and try to run it manually. Crashed. I run it as administrator. YAY NEW WINDOW! Click configure! Crashed. Manual download! Choose your own destination! Uninstall reinstall uninstall reinstall.... crash crash crash crash, kind of like when I go the wrong way down the freeway cause I'm still a noob and I haven't mastered the WASD yet.
"Oooooohhhhhkay then," I say, "Let's try an older version". I watched an installation tutorial for LCPDFR 9.5 and saw that it had no configuration thingy to crash on me. Cool, let's go for that.
Made it all the way through installating, again with dsounds.dll. Looking good all the way through, load up the game.... CRASH:
Application Error
Exception EFCreateError in module DSOUND.dll at 000116C5. Cannot create file "C:Program Files (x86)2K GamesGrand Theft Auto IVasilog.txt". Access is denied.
Access is denied. Sounds like a "Run as Admin" should fix it. Indeed, that's what one forum suggested. But I bought the game from Gamestop Downloads and I have to run it through the Gamestop App, which just has a shiny play button and no .exe on my computer to right click. So, now I have no GTA IV, let alone no LCPDFR. So, plan B, I try kennie's steps from this thread: http://www.lcpdfr.co...or-with-lcpdfr/ (I also tried to follow Iconography's link but it says I'm not allowed to view, which I thought was weird.)
Delete the scripts. Done. Reinstall using xliveless. Done. Boot up the game.......... YAY! The game works! I'm dismayed to find that my saves are gone and I have to start all over again, but it's a small price to pay for LCPDFR. Except no LCPDFR. left+alt+p, no fun ensued. So, I try to download the patch kennie linked to. Took an hour to download the zip. Clickity-click, let her rip... Crash.
So, it's nearing midnight and I have to work early tomorrow. That's where I'm leaving it for now. I'm sure it's possible to get around all these roadblocks, I'm just not sure how. Like I said, the PC is brand new, Alienware, has no problem running the game, and it has the C++ and the other prerequisites for LCPDFR. There's no conceivable reason in my mind why the computer keeps getting mad at me, but it does. So I'm turning to the experts, youse guys.
Obviously, I'd like to get the LCPDFR 1.0 working. It looks so pretty. If we can solve that diagnostic problem, that would be optimal. But if not, I'm fine with 9.5 and then continuing to look to solve the problem with 1.0. I'm not the techiest person out there but I gave it the old college try, and I haven't succeeded. Perhaps I would if I had time to keep at it. I'm just hoping someone has the answers!
Thanks for reading the tale of my woes and I really appreciate any help that's possible. It's probably fixable in two seconds and I'm overlooking something totally obvious and someone is going to just link me over to some thread I should have been able to find on my own, but I digress. Also, I do not see AdvancedHook.log (though AdvancedHook.dll exists), AdvancedHookInit.log, or LCPDFR.log. That doesn't mean they don't exist, necessarily, that means I don't see them. Thanks in advance, Anthony.
