Highway Patrolman killed

"Officer down." Two words police officer never wish to hear on the radio. Unfortunately, Saturday night troopers of the Nevada Highway Patrol heard those very words. Trooper Jim Wilson stopped to help a vehicle sitting on the side of the highway. When he walked up, the man in the car opened fire striking Jim in the torso. Wilson was able to shout "10-33 Officer Down" on the radio before the gunman shot him execution style in the head. A passing motor officer noticed the situation, stopped and opened fire killing the gunman. "I was horrified, seeing an officer being shot in the head in cold blood sends shivers through me." says the officer. Soon after highway patrolmen, liberty city police officers and medical personnel rushed the scene but it was too late. Jim Wilson was pronounced dead on scene as was the gunman. The shooter, Mark Johnson, had recently been fired from his job and was distraught and determined to take his anger out on the next person he saw. Unfortunately, that man was a highway patrolman. Jim was survived by his two daughters and his wife Sara. Sergeant Tim Burns of the highway patrol stated, "This is an unfortunate incident that will never be forgotten, Jim was an excellent man and enjoyed going to work every day. He had an enthusiasm that was unsurpassed and he was always willing to help. He will be missed dearly." Jim's funeral will be held privately with members of law enforcement.
