Will Management Team August 16, 201510 yr Author stats Management Team I feel for R* & what people are doing to their GTA online it's sad & no i wouldn't be pissed.Fair enough.
RipplyTiger151 Friends of LSPDFR August 16, 201510 yr Author stats Good work Bugs. I respect you wanting your models locked. When you make a full car and you want it to be locked that should be your discretion. If you want to release a car or lightbar as a dev part, that should also be at your discretion. I have always appreciated when people released unlocked cars because it helps my laziness. At this early point in this game, I would appreciate any car mods. Locked or unlocked.
davelaric Members August 16, 201510 yr Author stats Looks freaking amazing, sad to see the disagreement between parties :( Hopefully, it gets resolved soon
Deactivated Member Deactivated August 16, 201510 yr Author stats I agree that authors should get credit, but some of them act like total A-holes holding the entire modding community hostage with their vehicle models.Yeah, screw them for not wanting the models they work hard on in their own personal time to be stolen by some jerks on the internet. Maybe you should learn how to model instead of complaining that you won't be getting free toys for your video game?

Maybe you should learn how to model instead of complaining that you won't be getting free toys for your video game?Wow. Ok really? Did they ask Ford if they could use their models? Did they ask R* if they could mod their game? The reason people lock their models is to hold a little bit of internet fame and ego over a community. Don't lecture me about how they should get credit, because they should, but they hold the entirety of the modding scene hostage by locking and not releasing them.

Your very capable of learning all the tricks of the trade to produce your own models just like bugs did. I myself learned how to model and never once did I feel i was being held "hostage". This is exactly why people dont share their work because you somehow feel your entitled to the work of others. And besides, you don't need to ask Ford for permission. They have entertainment licenses with their vehicles so your able to use them for entertainment purposes as you wish. I am going to have to agree with bugs on this one. Riley24 Members August 16, 201510 yr Author stats For the sake of common decency, everyone...if you're going to post WIP pictures of a mod that the community is dying to use, have a plan to release it. Otherwise its bragging about something only you're letting yourself enjoy. You're not entitled to anyone else's work. Mod makers release things on their own schedules, but its common decency that once screenshots are posted, an eventual release can be expectedYour work will never be safe. If I post a killer video on Youtube, someone can rip it and re-upload it. That's just how the internet is. In GTA IV, we were lucky to be able to lock models. We won't always have that luxury in the future, and it shouldn't be the death of every modding community online.
LordGunter Members August 16, 201510 yr (edited) Author stats I would like to chime into the healthy debate here, but before I do that, I'd like to say kudos to the author of this model, it looks amazing in the pictures. Now, down to the healthy debate, I deeply appreciate and understand the reasons behind someone wanting to protect their models. LSPDFR is going to be around for quite awhile, and who can blame them for wanting credit, where it is justly due. What I don't understand is why can't there be a middle ground. When someone creates a beautiful model, and can't secure it properly, why not make a dollar tree version for public release, and save the premium model for later, when it's able to be protected. The ENTIRE point of this modding and role play community is to have fun, and enjoy mods. I don't believe a model author would state they don't want their models to be enjoyed by the LSPDFR community, yes, donations are nice, but the reality is these guys love to see their hard work enjoyed by thousands. It would make me feel awesome too, as rightly deserved if I were a modeler. So in conclusion, I beg of thee, for the sake of those who enjoy the hard work of modelers, release a less impressive version of your models, until you are able to protect your most valuable ones. The solution is EVERYONE can learn to model for themselves. You want to replicate a local department? Stop relying on others to do the heavy lifting for you and learn to do it yourself.

It really happens with fire truck models for GTA 4, where modelers will post pictures of their WIP trucks but it will never see the light of day to the community and I can't stand it. It's happened on here too many times and It really pisses me off. I get people want to show off their work, but if it is going to be private, post it on a personal website or Facebook page, not a site where a huge community of people will want to use it or expect a release. But let's be honest, someone else will come along and release another CVPI, so why fight about it? It will eventually happen.
LordGunter Members August 16, 201510 yr (edited) Author stats Do you realize that we may or may not have the time to even do a premium model let alone 2 versions of it? The solution is EVERYONE can learn to model for themselves. You want to replicate a local department? Stop relying on others to do the heavy lifting for you and learn to do it yourself. That's a solution that will never work. We are talking about a simple supply and demand economy, with consumers. These models and their authors would not exist if others weren't downloading and enjoying them. Time is an issue, you're right. However, the vehicle in these pictures is what I could classify as "premium." It wouldn't take a lot of effort to dumb down this model and create a less impressive variation. This model was created within days of the plugin for z modeler being released, therefore your point is not valid. Time is an issue in some cases, but not with what I am specifically speaking of. I am trying to take the middle ground with these models, there is no need to be hostile. I do rely on others to do my heavy lifting for these mods and models, I want to play the game and not create it myself. As I'm sure you do for some things as well. This does not make me inferior to you. If these models do not become available, I will simply do without. It's not going to hurt me, I will continue to play with the vehicles I have now. I'm trying to suggest there is a middle ground where the authors can still get their credit, and still satisfy the players who consume their models, which in turn, gives them purpose. This can not be summarized as a black and white issue. Those of us who use the models in our games are just as important as the authors who create the models, we give EACH OTHER purpose. Its a win win, one would die without the other. *Drops mic* Edited August 16, 201510 yr by LordGunter
Deactivated Member Deactivated August 16, 201510 yr Author stats What does this model look like at night?
SnH FireFighter Members August 16, 201510 yr Author stats so much Salt.. time to get a refill before winter..
Deactivated Member Deactivated August 16, 201510 yr Author stats I think locking models is a good way for modelers to try and make sure their work doesn't get "stolen" and no credit given, but sadly this is the internet. People will always figure out a way to do something if they want it bad enough, like unlocking a locked model. I'm not a modeler, but do make textures, and will make more in the future. If I could lock my textures so no one could ever edit them, would I? Hell no. Do I want people to reupload them without credit though, also no. But if someone wants to edit them for personal use, have at it! Really in this situation there is no common ground, unless zmodeler reintroduces the locking feature. So for now, either modelers stop releasing mods because they can't lock them, so no one can enjoy mods anymore, or we continue on like GTA IV where most people just use the mods, and the modeler takes the risk that some asshat somewhere does release it again without giving credit. BTW, those CVPI's look absolutely fantastic, I wonder do the lightbars work?

Unfortunately the internet isn't the safest place for your creations and even locking mods would't fully protect them. The community team won't allow locked models to be uploaded so I doubt we will see any of Bug's work on LSPDFR...
RipplyTiger151 Friends of LSPDFR August 16, 201510 yr Author stats Just a FYI: Lightbars and equipment that you see on the cars of BxBugs can take up to days to make. Stop concerning yourself with the car or being able to mod and think about the hard work and dedication that is put into beautiful work that is meant to be enjoyed. It took awhile in the IV community for good parts to even be created and its going to be the same way for V. Its literally been a week and people are already begging for parts and DEMANDING RELEASE? Have some courtesy, jeez.

Only thing is, if you make a vehicle for a game and release screenshots of it, basically bragging about it and then say you won't release it, then don't even announce it in the first place, because that's just a shitty thing to do. You even said so yourself, you rely on others to do the heavy lifting for you. Well, buddy...your on your own then. The middle ground is you simply learn to do it yourself instead of making yourself look less inferior to those who can. I learned to do it myself, as can you and every other member on this site. I'll tell you I don't depend on downloads to model my stuff. I model stuff because I want something specific. I don't depend on anyone to do any heavy lifting for me because I can depend on myself. The middle ground is you simply learn to do it yourself, or accept the fact that those who can do it themselves don't want self entitled children having their work to edit as they see fit. *DROPS MIC* lol BTW, you know how I can protect my work? Not releasing it to the public. Simple as that. I'm not greedy, I want to enjoy the game just as much as the next guy..I wanted to perfectly replicate the departments that I see on a daily basis and I can...because I learned to do it myself. Then when somebody rips it they just claim they made the part and the original author gets no credit what so ever. Just because he posts a picture on a public site doesn't mean the model should be released.
