A Sergeant with Blaine County Sheriff's Office was on a traffic stop today when he was ambushed by three Hispanic males in the parking lot of a motel. The Sergeant was stopping a motorist for 60mph in a 40mph zone when he heard yelling across the street. Once the Sergeant finished his traffic stop and was going back to his vehicle to address the disturbance at the motel all three subjects started firing rounds in an attempt to kill him. The Sergeant was able to successfully defend himself and take down two of the three subjects before additional units could arrive. Once additional units were on scene the last subject dropped his weapon and complied with officers commands. Last subject was taken into custody and placed in the county jail. Crime Scene was notified and three .40 caliber pistols were located as well as 17 shell casings that were also .40 caliber. The subject in custody is being charged with one count of attempted capital murder of a police officer, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of engaging in organized criminal activity. Bond will be set at $2.5 million.
