A Liberty County Sheriff Deputy was conducting a routine traffic stop in the 4400 block in Steinway, when the driver stepped out and opened fire with an assault style rifle. and began shoot at the deputy. The deputy was able to seek cover behind his patrol car and was able to return fire, fatally wounding the subject. The Deputy was treated for minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
