Can't load mod. Crashing. Please, any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! Very new to GTA V and LSPDFR but not new to modding. Been modding games for years. Gotta say, I haven't seen a mod as amazing as LSPDFR. Amazing job with it!

 

Anyhow, that being said, I have played the mod and it did work for me but a couple days ago I did a fresh GTA V install, installed LSPDFR (0.4.1 Build 22580) and no mods except one (Realistic Guns Sounds v3.1) and it's now crashing every time RPH tries to load the mod. Can't even get in to play the mod. It crashes exactly when you get to that last black screen just prior to getting in game. According to the log the exception type is:  System.AccessViolationException.

Apart from the above mod, the only other things I have installed is Open IV (3.1.0.0), Script Hook V (1.0.1604.1), Script Hook V Dot Net (2.10.9), Rage Native UI (1.6.3) and of course Rage Plugin Hook (0.65.1237.15477) and I'm certain all of them are the latest versions. Tried different methods online to resolve this but to no avail. Oh and fyi, the regular single player game loads fine. No issues. The crash happens only when trying to load the LSPDFR mod.

 

Just really wanna play the mod again and hopefully someone can help me resolve this. RPH crash log attached.

Hello,

So what I want you to do is re-download and install RPH and LSPDFR. But before putting the files into your game follow these steps:

For each file in each download:

1. Right click the file.

2. Select Properties.

3. Check the box that says unblock.

@UnknownBastion  I don't see the "Unblock" button on any files. Might be because I'm running Windows 8.1. I know the unblock button should be on the bottom right of the file properties window but it's not there. Attached screenshot of what I see.

Have you tried clicking Advanced? There should be a check box for that as the files should start out blocked.

Just wanna say, really really appreciate the time you're taking to help me with this)) About what you mentioned, ya I did take a look at the "Advanced" area and couldn't find an Unblock option. The first screenshot shows what the Advanced area looks like on my end, and that's right clicking on an actual file. On the second screenshot, I right clicked a folder rather than a file and I see "Read-only" is ticked. Don't know if that's significant in any way. If you want to see more screenies of different areas in the properties window, let me know and I can post them.

 

All in all, I don't think Windows 8.1 has an 'Unblock' button option. If it does, I definitely don't have it enabled. But I do know for sure that Windows 10 has that feature.

Have you considered an upgrade to Windows 10? Cause I know Windows 8 is a pain in the ass.

Ya, I wanna do it. Tired of Win 8.1. I shoulda upgraded when it was free to do lol but maybe I can find a way to upgrade free anyway. But gotta backup all my files first. I have too many important ones (non-gaming) that I don't wanna risk losing. Heard that I won't lose anything in an upgrade but just to be safe.

 

Wanted to ask, so when you gave your steps in your first reply, that advice was due to what the crash report showed, correct? I'm sure yes, just wanted to ask))

From what I found in the crash report, I believe it indicated to the files being blocked when the game attempted to access them. I could be wrong though.

@UnknownBastion  Ok so I found a way to have "Unblock" feature appear in Windows 8.1 (found it in this article here. Old article but works). Really hoping this actually does unblock files. From what I understand it does.  Now if only there was a way to unblock files in bulk. Doing files one by one is quite tedious lol.

Alright... finally got LSPDFR to work again!!  Woohoo!!  Thanks so much @UnknownBastion for all your help    You were right, it was about files being blocked.  VERY much appreciated!  I'll rewrite Bastion's advice below but with a little twist.  Found out several things while trying to get this to work.

*DISCLAIMER - This worked for me but can't guarantee this will work for you. If your computer explodes on you, please do not blame me*

 

So I basically followed Bastion's advice in unblocking files but as those who've been reading up on this post know, I didn't have an "Unblock" button in my file properties window.  Then I found out how to add a working "Unblock" button and was able to begin unblocking files one by one.  But I really wanted to find a way to do this faster and so now I found out how to unblock files in bulk using Powershell.  Once all was done, LSPDFR started working for me again.

So for anyone who's having the same issue I had... with this method you should be able to get LSPDFR up and running again (can do this for all your mods as well prior to installing them, if you so wish).  Just please keep my disclaimer in mind, I'm not a programmer/developer by any means.  Only with Bastion's help, along with info I researched and through trial and error I got it working.  You shouldn't run into issues if done right but can't guarantee that.

 

Anyhow, here's what to do (before performing any of the steps, read the whole process first, even the "Note" at the end):

 

1 - Download latest LSPDFR (manual version, not auto-installer) and latest RAGE Plugin Hook. Create a new folder in D drive (can be C drive also) for each of the downloads and extract each zip file into it's own folder.  Name folders whatever you like.

2 - Press the "Windows" + "R" keys. This will bring up the "Run" dialog box.

3 - In the Run box type: powershell. Then press "Ok" or "Enter".

4 - In Powershell, type this command:   dir -Path "D:\Your Folder's Name" -Recurse | Unblock-File  then press "Enter".

5 - Repeat this for the other folder.

6 - Once the above command is run for both folders, copy and paste FIRST the LSPDFR contents (except the 'licenses' folder) into your GTA V directory, replace all files if prompted. Then copy and paste the RAGE Plugin Hook contents into your main GTA V directory, replace all files when prompted.

7 - Start up the mod and it should be working now 

 

NOTE:  In the command snippet, the "-Recurse" parameter is used if you have files in sub-folders, as is the case with the LSPDFR files once extracted.  Apart from LSPDFR, if you find there are no sub-folders in zip files you extract, you can leave out "-Recurse".  If you wish to perform a test prior to unblocking the files, just put the "-WhatIf" parameter at the end... dir -Path "D:\Your Folder's Name" -Recurse | Unblock-File -WhatIf and run the command.  This will do a test run and show you what will happen with the command you're using, without actually doing anything. All fine? Then you're good to go. Type in the command again, without "-WhatIf" to unblock all files.
