New OPP Tesla X

Featured Replies

The Ontario Provincial police just revealed their new Tesla Model X cruiser in the Toronto Auto show, and it looks amazing, so if there's any model makers out there looking for a new project

I wish OEMs still made practical, cost-effective police cruisers again. Cool looking cars and police department budgets don't go hand-in-hand

Those rims are going to cost taxpayers a pretty penny, when they get damaged.. Hope they don't try any pit maneuvers with that either. Might be a good D.A.R.E. car, or an undercover vehicle like in Miami Vice

We need more of these:

I would kill for that car, primarily for Robocop.  Been forever since I've seen it.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

I don't think they going to be using it for regular patrol probably because of the range limit, but the Tesla X is faster than any SUV used by the OPP today, and is very durable and safe, we already get buried by taxes here in Ontario might as well have our police roll in style lol

Except, it's not durable. Simple things on them break, such as door handles not working (they're electronic). The gull wing doors also have a ton of issues.

The suspension is not durable. It's not designed for severe duty police applications. It's designed for civilian-use luxurious smooth driving.  The interior does not have easy-clean rubber floors, with fabric being used everywhere (bad idea for drunk prisoners). The frame is not reinforced. The control arms, bushings, and wheel bearings are also not police-spec. This is not a police packaged vehicle.

Tesla's are incredibly unreliable vehicles with tons of build quality issues, minus their powertrain (or rather, lack thereof). Anything Tesla will do the Big 3 can do 10x better, 100x faster. Also, the police market is not ready yet for an electric vehicle.  The amount of energy police equipment draws will make the battery range very difficult to work with. Until batteries get better, and cheaper, this is a pipe dream.
