Change ELS vehicle horn

Featured Replies

hi,

I have several els vehicles in my game which use a bullhorn but then I edited the sound of the clown horn slot so it has a different bullhorn sound. I want to change the sound of one of my add-on vehicles so the horn is set to the clown horn instead of the default bullhorn.

The only way you'd be able to utilize multiple bullhorns is replacing the firetruck horn's audio hash, and then opening the ELS VCF for the car and putting in VEHICLES_HORNS_FIRETRUCK_WARNING where MainHorn AudioString="SIRENS_AIRHORN" /> would be.

this is what that line in my VCF is <MainHorn InterruptsSiren="true" AudioString="VEHICLES_HORNS_FIRETRUCK_WARNING" />  but in game it is still the default police bullhorn

Did you replace the actual audio hash?  0x14BFBCE3 is what you'd be replacing with the bullhorn you want.

ok, so it worked somewhat els identified that the sound had been changed but when I press the horn key in game no sound is played, it is silent. IN Open IV if I select the file I replaced and play it in Open IV then my custom sound is there and sounds fine. Any ideas why?

Did you also check to see if any other sounds were working?  Sirens, other airhorns, vehicle sounds?

I don't know a lot about how ELS works, but it should work.  I recently installed a firetruck that used the horns_firetruck_warning value and the horn was fine.  The only thing I can think of is that the vehicles folder is too big.  I'd try testing around by deleting some sounds you'd never use, like the clown horn.  Ultimately, though, ELS is very minimal on what you can do with the audio.

So for whatever reason you cannot see the hashes for sirens, this might help (figured this out myself annoyingly) hope this helps because every siren replacement I've seen provides only the name hash for the siren so I have to go in and change the name to match it's counterpart in the vehicles.awc

If your still having issues with the fire truck horn not playing in game, I just found the solution that helped me!! You need to name it VEHICLES_HORNS_FIRETRUCK_WARNING. I’ve tested it, and it works! Hope it helps you, if you still haven’t found a solution
