I am having this same issue. Never touched the vehiclelayouts.meta file. However I did the following and made a mistake :

 

-My game was working perfectly fine. (I have custom cars for all police slots, fbi 1& 2, and sheriff 1 & 2)

 

-I wanted to download the new LSPD pack from TOY, which included a required vehicles.meta file

 

-I added Police1, Police2, and Police3 from his pack and put in his vehicles.meta file BEFORE I MADE A COPY OF MY OLD META FILE!!!

 

My game now crashes every time I get into a vehicle, I have tried for hours trying to backtrack my steps. But since I do not have my old META file, I can no longer use my old PD cars.

 

I did not plan on using TOY's cars, because I was not a huge fan after trying. But I think I will now be forced to use his, because his META file overwrited mine.

 

Any ideas on how to help? I am so upset, as I had a great pack of custom PD cars that no longer work.

@amarano001 do you use a MODS folder? If so, it’s easy to grab the stock vehicle.meta from the original files.

A quick google gives you the info on where it’s located. 

I do not use a MODS folder (dumb I know), and have already tried to input the vanilla vehicles.meta file and my game still crashes. I use JJ Dawkins LSCS pack that he published over the summer, but has since taken down. I use 4 of his models for POLICE, POLICE2, POLICE3, and POLICE4. I can't seem to find if he had a vehicles.meta file in his packs, but I do not believe he did. Neither the vanilla meta or the new meta that came with TOY's packs work for JJ's cars. Hopefully I can find another solution, but I think the only way I can fix this is to delete all my custom police cars and start from scratch. (Sad because JJ's models are the best in the game in my opinion.)

I think your best bet is validating game cache to get back all vanilla files, then make a mods folder and start again.

Well there goes my 4.5 hours of work last night getting my game modded after verifying my game cache for the 3rd time in the last week. Thanks though.

The mods folder will prevent you from ever needing to completely redo everything.  I personally just had a problem recently where my vehicles.rpf became corrupt.  Deleted it, and replced with the vanilla vehicles.rpf and all is good again.  Sure, I lost all my replacement cars, but that's an easy fix.
