A handful of questions after my first 2 hours with LSPDFR

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and to LSPDFR in general. I'd like to start by saying that I love the concept of this mod, appreciate the work of all involved, and have had a lot of fun playing around and getting a bit used to what I can do with it. As a result I've gotten past the initial hangups that some people seem to have, but I've still got some questions that I haven't been able to find answers to elsewhere. I'll number them to make my post easier to sort. I'm using the latest version of the mod, downloaded straight from this site, and no other plugins. Here goes:

1. Is there no way to get full controller (Xbox in my case) support and eliminate the need for a keyboard altogether? I'm grateful for the fact that I can use the controller for most things, but strangely the most common function - accepting callouts by pressing the Y key - seems to have no controller counterpart. Bringing up the menu with N isn't too bad since it's not very frequent, and I do wish that there was an automated driver's license lookup, but from what I can tell there's a computer mod that might do that.

2. Is threatening / commanding a suspect supposed to take several seconds? When I attempt to apprehend a criminal I draw my gun, point it at them, and hold down the E / right control pad key. As I wait for my character to issue his or her command the suspect is almost always already in the midst of running away or even attacking me. Is there not a way to issue the command to get down instantaneously? I've noticed that it seems to take even longer when using Karen of the IAA, my preferred character at the moment.

3. Speaking of attempting an arrest, is there a way to stop a fleeing vehicle other than sheer physicality and brute force? I've only ever been able to stop a vehicle by ramming / PITting / shooting out the tires and blocking it / etc. I expect that to be the most common way but so far I haven't seen a single exception.

4. Am I incorrect in sensing that the damage done to the player is much higher and / or randomly fatal? I've noticed several aggravating situations where I was arresting someone and a random angry ped ran up out of nowhere and killed me dead by punching me in the head a single time. Other times I was in the midst of a firefight, taking cover and periodically popping up to land a shot, only to suddenly die in a single shot regardless of health. I can appreciate the realistic simulation but I really dislike this aspect and would love to reduce it or turn it off.

5. The mod (or perhaps my game?) seems to have a problem with despawning / doing anything with fellow officers after a callout is completed. On multiple occasions I've completed an arrest, surrounded by officers, only to watch as they just sort of hung around regardless of whether another call came in. On other occasions I'd leave an area to join a pursuit and pass by a gaggle of cruisers (often a dozen or more) that were apparently left there since previous pursuits ten or twenty minutes prior. I don't think that the mod is "cleaning up" the mess that the officers leave behind, and I wonder if it has anything to do with the crashes I get every half hour or so. Can anything be done about this?

6. Can my officer character be upgraded in any way? By that I mean faster sprinting, better weapons, any permanent changes of any kind?

7. Is LSPDFR compatible with the Crime and Rebalance Enhancement mod? https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/rebalanced-authority

8. Does LSPDFR keep track of statistics that I can view in-game? Something telling me how good a job I'm doing or something to that effect, a visible goal to work towards?

9. Are the various callout mods stackable? By that I mean can a bunch of them be installed alongside each other for high levels of variety? Maybe what I should ask is, would the game be more prone to crashing and conflict if I were to do so?

10. Is there a sort of "must-have, no questions asked" plugin, or pack of plugins, to add to LSPDFR? By that I mean that I know opinions are subjective, and that people have put together lists of preferred additions, but if I were to view vanilla LSPDFR as the raw "starter pack" of the concept, is there a sort of agreed-upon addition that cleanly enhances it by fixing bugs, adding upgrades and making it more stable and user-friendly?

A final thing I've noticed: If I get into another officer's vehicle, I will almost always be frozen once inside. I can move the camera, pause the game and whatnot but I can't otherwise move. The only way out is to F4 and gotopd. Is this a bug that can be fixed or avoided on my end? In the heat of things I can't always tell exactly which vehicle is mine.

Well I guess that's it, that multitude of questions should be enough for now. I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting but if so I'll likely remember when I'm back playing the game again. Thanks for any answers, as well as for having the patience to read this post. And thank you to all those who created LSPDFR and continue to expand upon it, even just a couple of hours in I'm already in awe of it.

1) GTA V and LSPDFR both are controller enabled, as I use one.  Your controller might not be PC supported.

2) Yes, it's not meant to be instantaneous.  When aiming at them and pressing it, you'll see a bar fill up.  If you let go too soon before that bar fills up, they'll run again.

3) Not in the base LSPDFR.  Use Pursuit Deterrence.  It is one of my favorite mods and I highly recommend it.

4)  I have never been killed/knocked out with one hit unless the AI was driving over 100mph and ran me over.  Are you using any mods that might deal with damage?

5) It sounds like there's more going on with your game.  GTA's cleanup is usually immediate, at the very most taking a minute or two.  It could be causing crashes if the vehicles left behind are all high poly.  Too many high poly vehicles in one place is never good/

6) You would need to use a trainer for the faster sprinting and weapons.  Although, you can also use LoadOut Plus.

7) No idea, and I wouldn't install it.  The last update was in 2015, there's a good chance this mod is not compatible with newer game builds.

8) No.  You'll need to install LSPDFR+ by Albo.  The catch with his mods, you need to install Traffic Policer and Arrest Manager as well.  However, these are essential mods in my opinion, so no harm done.

9) Yes, you can have as many as your computer can handle.  There's always a chance some callout mods are incompatible with each other, but I've yet to have this issue.  I mentioned "as many as your computer can handle" because they can be taxing on your FPS, so bare that in mind.

10)  EUP, Skin Control, Arrest Manager, Traffic Policer, LSPDFR+, Police Smart Radio and Search Warrant by Darkmyre.  These are all mods I'd still first before any others, and are a must.

For the final thing, I have never experienced this.  There are times where I've killed officers in their car and then got in and it was fine.  I kind of feel like the issue is either the ped model you're using or maybe a different mod.

Thanks for responding to everything. It does make me a bit worried though that you haven't noticed any of the issues that I'm having. For me they've been pretty consistent so I'm a bit concerned that somehow I've installed something incorrectly (though I would assume that the mod wouldn't even activate and work if that were the case). Is there anywhere I can go to look at the settings for player damage and script cleanup?

I'm very interested in your comment about playing with a controller. I use a standard wireless Xbox 360 controller with my PC using the Microsoft dongle that came with it. I play all my PC games with it, including GTA V, but only some commands of LCPDFR seem to be supported. What button do you press on yours to accept callouts?

Thanks for the suggestions of those additions to LSPDFR. What makes you prefer those ones?

While controller does work for some functions of LSPDFR, I have always had to hit Y on the keyboard to accept callouts.  I don't think it's something you can do on controller.

For the damage/death thing, you can try renaming your mods folder to _mods and try playing to see if you get the same result as usual.

I suggested those mods because they all add realism to LSPDFR.  Calling a coroner, calling a plate check, calling for a tow truck, etc.  They make the LSPDFR experience so much better and simple.

Oh okay, I thought you meant that you didn't need to use the keyboard at all. It's not the biggest deal in the world to have the keyboard sitting near me whenever I want to use this mod, it's just kind of a pain since I can do pretty much everything else without it (and weird because responding to dispatch seems like one of the most common and therefore likely keys to be mapped).

I haven't thought to test the damage without running LSPDFR but I do know that I only started noticing the issue once I began using it. Chases would occasionally end way too quickly because the driver would seem to kill me in just one or two shots as I closed in. At first I thought that I'd just been reckless and took too many shots but it still stood out as a surprisingly quick death. Then I'd be in a shootout with random hostiles and go down in a blink, literally startling me with the death screen sounds because there had been no accumulating damage to my character to prepare me for it. This is when I started thinking that something must have been wrong. There was no build-up, no absorbing a bunch of damage with my character jerking about from a hail of gunfire wounds. This was just an individual spaced out shot or two at full health and then CRACK, suddenly dead. The worst and most noticeable was the melee death. Sometimes someone will run up and attack me, killing me in just a few swings, and on two separate occasions I was killed instantly by a single punch. Something's definitely wrong there.

It's worth noting that in looking this up I DID see people describing this exact same phenomenon, saying that it only happened in the game's "hardcore" mode. I immediately went to look this up only to notice that they were talking about LCPDFR, not LSPDFR. Still, they described my issue exactly, which has me really curious.

A follow-up, if I may: In the process of exploring some of the mods you listed I downloaded Skin Changer, which I very much enjoy. The only problem is that when I start duty (through the station OR forceduty), the character has no voice. Of course individual characters aren't going to have their own dialogue for this mod - I don't, for example, expect a hooker to yell "police, on the floor" in her cute southern twang - but I did assume that the characters would use a gender-based default. When YOU play as a custom character, do they get a voice? I haven't tried the EUP mod yet, is it because of that? Or maybe because I'm using a stock character like Molly or Dr. Friedlander rather than making someone from scratch?

I'm not entirely sure what could be causing that.  While I do use Skin Change and EUP, I have characters saved in Skin Changer that use EUP, so when I load the character directly from Skin Changer, I do have a voice.  Now, I have noticed certain times where my voice will disappear.  I don't know what triggers it, but switching back to my saved ped usually fixes that.

It's weird that I seem to be getting several little hangups with this mod that aren't happening to you. I've confirmed that the mod and RageHook seem to be installed in all the right places (I would guess that they wouldn't run otherwise) but still, little issues here and there.

One thing I've noticed is that the damage problem might be related to the game, not the mod. Last night I did a complete reinstall and added ONLY the base LSPDFR - no other mods, no other plugins - and checked whether I could still die suddenly from random gunshots without my health being all the way at the bottom. I could. Then I played the game without RageHook active, which I would think would also mean the LSPDFR stuff wasn't loaded. The problem persisted. At this point I then dug around and found a mod that decreases AI accuracy. I set it very low and started a gunfight in a gang neighborhood. I was able to just stand still in the middle of the street as three or four people ran around shooting at me. It took around ten seconds for them to even hit me twice, and my health was at about the halfway point and rising. Then, sure enough, the next shot killed me dead. Maybe this game has random headshots (or damage equivalent to them) for realism or something and I just never noticed. Still, it feels weird that I don't even remember having this happen before trying out LSPDFR.

So is EUP specifically designed to be nothing more than a cosmetic mod? Just something that adds police dressing to character models that don't normally use it? I'd be happy to use the mod for that purpose but I've now seen quite a few people recommend the combination and I can't tell if that's because it has any bearing on the game beyond visuals for the sake of role-playing. I guess I can always check myself, I just try to weed out issues with current installations before adding more stuff. I don't suppose you'd be willing to try out a specific custom ped with your setup just to confirm whether you get a voice, would you? If so, the first one I tried was Molly from story mode. She seemed completely silent. Maybe I can get far enough along to try myself as well. If so I'll let you know.

I regularly patrol down in Grove Street/Davis because of the gangs, and in all the shootouts, I have never once been shot once and died.  I'm really not sure what could be causing it, and no one else has posted topics about it.

EUP is indeed purely cosmetic, it's not an LSPDFR requirement/game change.  To clarify, when you say storymode ped, do you mean the actual ped, or just the voice?  Because if you mean ped, I have never tried using  storymode ped as an officer.  I always use a custom one created in Skin Control.

Do the stats of your story mode player character (Trevor, etc., whomever you might be playing as at the time) carry over to the officer upon starting duty? One thing I thought of is that I've been playing around with LSPDFR on a brand new game, and maybe my character being especially weak has something to do with this. There used to be a debate about whether increasing character health had any effect on the damage taken by bullets so I don't know, maybe that could change things. I swear, it's the oddest thing (and the only thing that truly aggravates me). It's tough to try play as an officer when death comes so randomly. I can't think of any remaining explanation for why this is happening. Here's the conversation other people were having about my same problems in LCPDFR. I know it's not the same mod or game, but I thought maybe it might possibly reveal something.

Yes, I should have specified that so far I've only tried LSPDFR as the default supplied officers or story mode characters applied through Skin Control. I have not yet tried to create a custom character from scratch using Skin Control, I'll try that. I assumed that the mode would just apply a generic male or female voice depending on what your model is flagged as, but maybe it doesn't recognize story models.

If you have a trainer, try playing as a regular LSPD officer (s_m_y_cop_01).  See if you're still one shot killed.  I'd imagine the only time Trevor/Mike/Frank's stats come into play is if you're playing them.  There are some animal ped models that will die instantly upon hitting anything.  Whether or not this is the case for some other ped models is beyond me.  One thing to test, try putting on body armor and see if it still happens.  Also try god mod and see if it happens or not.

Ah you know what, I tried playing as a MP character made from scratch using Skin Changer as you suggested. Indeed, the character does have a voice. I don't know anything about scripting but it seems that the game must interpret all skins as non-player characters unless they're designed with that MP option.

I'm still doing some testing of various functions. I've been looking into the fact Skin Changer lets you change your character but does not let you actually play missions with them, see them in cutscenes, etc. After doing some digging I found another script that tells the game to treat any custom skins as the official player character which then allows the game to be played normally with them. This script worked, so now I'm going to do some testing to see whether it tricks LSPDFR into giving custom (non-MP) skins a voice.

Glad we got that figured out. :)  Let me know what your other tests discover.

It actually gets better. My testing has indeed uncovered a way to apply the spoken officer dialogue to any NPC in the game. I'm currently using a topless beach girl to run a prostitute sting as we speak. :)

Lol the honest reason is that I wanted to see how it would feel playing as a voiced police officer using the most extreme character models I could think of. A clown was another one. Bigfoot was hilarious. I tried playing as a rat but that didn't seem to work. Brad's cadaver might have to be next.

I actually got the sting idea from the Anna character model (modified Hooker 2 model), which I've been having fun playing as because she's always been my favorite female model in the game. I thought it would be funny to run around jacking cars and shooting gangsters with this tiny little Southern belle character. Since this was going on while I was messing with LSPDFR I found it even funnier to envision her as an officer. Once I got the voice working, I realized that her appearance was perfect for the idea of role-playing as an undercover agent working a prostitute sting. I've been having her hang around corners and arrest anyone who seems to hang around and show "interest" in her. It's been a lot of fun.
