How to get coronas like this?

Featured Replies

Coronas look like crap from a distance. only light reflections are visible from long distance, no coronas or the lights themselves. When you're in a pursuit, you can see cop cars coming from a distance with no lights but just reflections.
Coronas only look good when you are close to a police vehicle, but from long distance they look stupid.

EDIT: I notice this happened with ELS, and based on my research, it has something to do with LOD coronas? Why is that a problem for ELS, are there any fixes? Definetly makes me want to switch back to non-ELS

Coronas actually look good when you are close to a police vehicle in GTA V, but from long distance they look stupid

most probably the els models you are using didnt have the els coronas properly setup, therefore you dont see them/they arent in the right places. either that or the emmisive mesh in the lods isnt optimally setup. i havent tested this in depth, but from what ive seen if the texture has white/ or is complex, when faraway it looks white, instead of red/blue.

but if all is done correctly, then you should be able to get something like this pic below.

Don't bother with ELS coronas. 90% are set up incorrectly by authors and are pretty bad. Set the Coronas distance to 1000.0 in ELS.ini so you won't see them. I am currently looking into the HBAO, SSAO and related files to see if I can increase the bloom cutoff for vehicle emissives. I will update you on anything.

Well I do want to see some blooms from far away with shiny bright lights. I remember Bxbuggs sheriff patrol (Non ELS) from back in the day was sooo perfect. You could see the lights bright and shinning from miles away. Do you remember that?

Non-ELS cars typically had coronas setup correctly so yes they did look good but ELS coronas are trash in my opinion. If I can't find a way in the game files to increase emissive bloom you will have to use ELS coronas if you want to see some shininess  in the distance.

not necessarily, if someone made a non els car, but hid coronas, then it'd be just as bad or worse than a poorly setup els model.

This is correct

so the problem is the cars and not the ELS? If so I haven't ran into ONE ELS car that had nice lights from a distance, they all look dull

Well partly yes because most vehicle authors don't bother to set up ELS coronas properly on their vehicle, some don't even at all. However even with ELS coronas, the lights still don't look that great from the distance.

Is there anyway to fix that? Are ELS creators going to fix it? It's a big deal for me lol.... like I'm going back to non-els.

Only the vehicle authors can set up ELS coronas when creating their vehicles in a model editor such as ZModeler. There is no other way. Besides, I have already said that even properly setup ELS coronas are still pretty poor. I am going to look through game files related to SSAO, HBAO etc. and see if I can increase bloom at a distance.

No, sorry. In fact I recently started playing IV again and when I get ELS V8 I'm going to see if the bloom works similarly. Eventually I'll get round to sorting V's bloom though.

Hahaha, it needs to be in pounds as I'm British! I'll get round to sorting it out I'm sure.

I found a fix.... I set emissive.day and night to 150,000 HA HA ! Looks beautiful from far..... but very ugly from close..... Massive blooms from upfront, but very nice glow from a distance

you think a script would do it?

If player is x far from vehicle, emissive = 150k.... Coding stuff lol

Yeah of course having a ridiculously emissive value will help but it's not the ideal fix at all. That's a very good point about a script though, perhaps create a new thread and request someone knowledgeable to give it a go?

I think it's an ideal fix as long as emissive changes value.

I did, no help... But someone could easily write a script for this

If player distance to emergency vehicles = 100ft

Then vehicle.emissive = 3,000

If player distance to emergency vehicles = 200ft

Then vehicle emissive = 20,000

And so on

Something like that.

It really looks good with a huge value from far, very realistic.... I'll post a video maybe

:((( It's a simple script but no one has ever done it or can help.
