This is what i thought of US and UK

. Regarding the terrorist this months in UK.

What are UK m5 intelligence unit  doing??? The terrorist that planned the UK stabbing on london bridge used to be on UK bbc documentary. The documentary is about muslim and islam. The UK m5 is sleeping on duty or they never do any works???

I do not know why US, UK and other western countries doing. Why nothing is done since the UK police already know who are suspected isis or terrorist member. Why take actions after the incidents. And why not take actions before the incident actually happened.

In my country Singapore, or other asian countries such as Malaysia, indonesia, when they establish the suspects or anyone who search the website on wanting to join the war in Syria. Some have been caught by just searching the nets on how to join the war in Syria. They ISD internal security departments  straight aways bring the suspect for interrogation and investigation. They are very proactive and take actions before them the terrorist can strike

do you think UK should implement firearms for its regular uniform officers.

I don't know what the deal is in Malaysia, but in the UK we have this little thing called 'Human Rights'. The MI5/Police may suspect someone of being a threat but until they have sufficient evidence very little can be done, unless you're an advocate of internment camps which have proven to be futile and yield very little results.

It's almost impossible to stop someone from getting into a car and attempting to run people over. It requires no preparation.

It's not worth signing away our rights for a relatively* minor issue.

*Inb4 someone accuses me of downplaying terrorism.

I believe it's much harder to get into Singapore than in the UK. Consequently, there's lower number of immigrants to control.

For us residents of Asian countries it's really hard to comprehend the western guys' mindset :D

I think firstly it's Human Rights and due process - you are entitled to be a free person regardless of your views, should it be that way, maybe not however it is so Mi5 has to operate within legal parameters across European Union laws, as well as laws within this country. Mi5 not only have to investigate suspected terrorists, they also have to track thousands which have the possibility to carry out terrorist attacks and those who support them, this is made difficult through the fact that the law affects what they can do.

As for the comment on whether Mi5 are always asleep, they are a highly effective agency, having stopped multiple planned terrorist attacks since the Westminster Attack, the problem is that you can't stop every attack, whether that be because of the agency being understaffed/underfunded or because the attackers do not communicate via online services which can be intercepted.

As for the story regarding British Police Officers running away, I'd take that statement on very loosely, it hasn't been properly confirmed and reports state that they where Community Support Officers, they hold no real policing power and generally assist in taking police reports for smaller crimes. Arming Police is not really the best approach, simply because attacks may of increased but they are not frequent enough in order to arm the 100,000 police officers, also the fact that the majority of police officers do not want to be armed, they have voted strongly against it.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

I heard from some singaporean people , they say for terrorist to success in launching an attacks on singapore is like striking a Lottery. And you are the only winner of the lottery Which means is so freaking hard. Because in singapore we have CCTV everywhere . And we got ISD aka internal security department in charge of internal security issue in the nation. Our government  take threats seriously. We got no humans right or freedom of speech 😴😴😹

Singapore is well knowed for its security.am i right? Many foreigner such as US, UK tourist say You can walk out the streets  feeling safe even for the ladies without fearing that you might get rob or raped. Thanks to the strict laws and harsh punishment.

Btw i am not bragging and being arrogant. I am just saying what i feel. Please dont flame me. Maybe western and asian ppl mindset are different

But things are hard to say for now. Our own minister have also say.  "NOT IF BUT WHEN."

When is it going to happen

How are we going to stop it

I don't think that routine arming of the police would solve the problem. We may need more armed police in some areas, but not for all cops to have guns. The response times in both London attacks for armed officers were so fast already, that I don't think that more guns would make a significant difference once an attack has already started.

MI5 and the police have caught a number of people and stopped 3 more planned terrorist attacks since Westminster (that the public are aware of). Given the scale of the problems they face, with a lack of community police officers in many areas and difficulties proving that somebody wants to carry out an attack, I think they're doing better than one might expect.

The problem is that, as Ben and Constable Lego pointed out, it's very easy to launch an attack like the ones we've seen without leaving a particularly obvious trail of evidence; they needed a vehicle and some knives, both of which can be bought from my local high street in an afternoon.

I think that what could help is the police coming down harder on hate crimes that can drive people towards radicalisation. It might also help if our government stopped arming Saudi Arabia and destabilising large areas of the world, although that may not have such a direct or immediate effect on UK domestic extremism.
