What files should be backed up before vehicle/player skin modding?

Featured Replies

It probably varies depending on what the mod is but are their some "must backup" files? It won't affect the first response mod in anyway?

Have you guys thought of uploading these files to this site for people that "forgot" to backup or is there some legal/copyright issues?

Cheers,

My advice, backup EVERY file that your going to mod, whether it be, cars, player, cop's, visual setting's, time cycle, if your going to mod it, make a back up! even the first response.ini if you edit the setting's.

and your second question, you can't upload backups due to copyright issues and it being the property of R*, yet, ton's of people still ask.

Usually , you should backup the thing , you going to skin modding ,

For example

if you going to replace the Police or other car wft , wtd / you should export it to a another folder .

And for audio , you are going to replace the audio .ivaud you going to replacee .

but for me basically i just backup all the gta 4 folder , EFLC folder. to be safe ,

Usually some readme will have some information on what files to backup

Back files up as you edit/replace them, then you don't end up with another 16GB eaten up.

Say I am going to edit visualsettings.dat, I would copy and paste it into the same folder so I now have visualsettings - Copy.dat, then simply rename that visualsettings.dat.BAK and edit the other file.

As for the distributing original files, it is not allowed but they can be found, I can't link to them but just Google it and you should find them.

You are using the WRONG right theme!
