Vehicle Slots will not load

Featured Replies

Whenever I insert new vehicles in Open V for any Police Vehicle Spot as it says within the "read me" files (Ex. Police 2, Police 3, etc.) they will not load in my game and the stock vehicle is still loading. I make sure they are imported in the right patch and have even replaced the vehicle for every patch before that so that every file with the vehicle name is replaced yet they are still loading the stock vehicles first. I have all vehicle files in a separate mod folder is the original folder over riding the mods folder??? The only vehicles that will load are ones that do not need to be placed in a patch folder such as "Police.ytd"

Hi there.   Regardless of what patchday the readme says, put the vehicle files in your very latest patchday that has a vehicles.rpf.  Please give that a try. :)

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

Make sure in OpenIV you're clicking "edit mode", dropping the files, and clicking edit mode again.  Then you're free to close it.

Let me know if you still have troubles with it.

A lot of people don't realize you have to enable edit mode on it.

Make sure the vehicle you're trying to use matches the name "POLICE", or whatever vehicle.

Here's the location I use for police models

  • police: mods\x64e.rpf\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf
  • police2: mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday3ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf
  • police3: mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday3ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf
  • police4: mods\x64e.rpf\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf
  • fbi: mods\x64e.rpf\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\fbi.ytd
  • fbi2: mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday2ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\
  • sheriff: mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday3ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\sheriff.ytd
  • sheriff2: mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday3ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf\sheriff2.ytd

Here's my process (Ive only replaced the default slots.. I dont create custom model slots).. I'm sure there is an easier way, but I've never had an issue this way.

  1. Launch OpenIV
  2. Hit CTRL + F3
  3. Type in the model name with .ytd (ex, police2.ytd)
  4. The search will show a list of locations where it is
    1. You will have to find the "latest" folder. This is because the model may have existed in lets say patchday1ng, but then had an update in patchday3ng so the game will load the "latest" location for the file
    2. Use common sense.. if you see patchday1ng and patchday2ng, patchday2ng is the latest
    3. The file you're looking for will show a location file of "vehicles.rpf"
  5. Double click the correct .ytd file
  6. Use the search bar at the top right to search for the model name (ex, police2)
  7. Go into Edit mode
  8. If Open IV warns you that its not working in the "mods" folder, click either "Show in mods folder" or "Copy to mods folder"
    1. This is because the mods folder is a "safe" location that the OpenIV asi uses to load your models without overwriting the games actual default files
  9. Personally, I delete all the files related to the model that I'm replacing.. again, haven't had a problem doing this..
  10. Drag the model files into the folder (typically you'll have a .ytd and a few .yft files)
  11. Leave edit mode and launch the game
