Touching any meta causes Rage to crash

Featured Replies

Every time I modify any meta file it causes the game to crash. The weird thing is if I delete those files right away from the mods folder (thus removing any mods) the game still crashes both on Rage Launch and also if I just try to launch without Rage. The only solution I've been able to identify is a clean install of GTA V which is incredibly frustrating as you can imaging.

How come I can't fix the crash problem by undoing the mod that crashed the game?

Modifying the meta in an incorrect way will only result in a crash at loading.  Once fixed, the game will load fine.  I've gone through this plenty of times.

What were you modifying in the meta?

Thanks for the reply. I installed two vehicle mods:

https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/lenco-bearcat-swat-code-3-arch-liberty-more-lights

https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/ikarus-284-bus

The bearcat was the only one which called for meta file replacement. But even removing the meta files from the mods folder didn't fix the problem. I've just verified the integraity of the game files though steam and still nothing.

I get the infamous "Error: GTA V launcher exited unexpectedly" when launching the Rage plugin.

To verify, does it crash instantly? or does it load and crash on "loading and populating game world"?

If I try just loading GTA V with no Rage it will freeze while loading the game world.

Are you positive you're using a mods folder?  If so, the game shouldn't just instantly crash.  I still mod my game daily and not run into this.

Yep. Removing the mods folder altogether allowed the game to start. II would love it if I didn't have to re-install all my mods.

Interesting. There was already riot installation in my patchday3 folder in addition to the patchday9 which is where I usually install my mods. I deleted patchday3 and moved the mods folder back and it seems to have fixed the problem. Actually no while I was typing this it crashed again.

Just got an error saying game data is corrupt. Weird because theeonyly mods are int he mods folder.

Delete your mods folder entirely and remake it.  Then carefully re add your vehicle and test the meta.

Seems like this will be necessary. I'm reducing the mods folder down to the bare minimum. I got the game working with only

GTAV/Mods/Update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday9ng/dlc.rpf/x64/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf

in the mods folder and the game works but for some reason all the vehicles are back to original.

I then tried to put all the mods in

GTAV/Mods/Update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday13ng/dlc.rpf/x64/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf

To see if maybe I needed to change the folder but to no avail. Not sure how to proceed.

Like I said, you need to remake the mods folder.  Something you did is causing an issue.

Remaking the mods folder using open IV did the trick. I was even able to copy my vehicles.rpf from the old mods folder and I don't have to re-install all my vehicles.

I guess some mods just crash the system!

True, but also not necessarily.  Even vehicles that crash the game will always crash on "loading and populating gameworld".  I think you may of done something incorrectly to cause it.
