Good evening all!

 

So, I am pretty new to all of this, especially when it comes to modding games...

 

I made an attempt to mod the game earlier after just installing if from steam.  In short, I should have backed up when it said "back up".  

 

Before I make another attempt, do I need to start the game normally first to get past the first scenes?  And should I do the manual install or auto?

 

I have a lot of mods I would like to try out, and was wondering what tips you have to getting them all to work and behave themselves?

If you mean if you have to do the first mission? No, the mod should work anyways. But i would recommend downloading a 100% story or to finsish the first mission and then save so you don't have to do it every time you launch your game. And if you mean manual or auto LSPDFR install, it does not matter since it installs the same files, just make sure you update your RPH to the latest version.

Since Slendis answered most of the questions, I'll answer mod compatibility one.  Since you are installing the latest Ragehook plugin, I would ensure that all of the mods you are installing are updated from October 6th to present (since that was the release date for the newest plugin from Rage).  You might still get away with using older mods, but you risk compatibility issues as they have not been updated to the latest Rage plugin.

Thank you so much for your prompt and insightful replies.  I am about to attempt to install mods etc.  (I have actually backed up this time).  I have done the main couple of missions now, although I did complete the game on PS4

 

What mods would you recommend to start off with?

Traffic Policer, Arrest Manager, and Police Radio to start with. These are vital (albeit not required) for a better LSPDFR experience.  I have a crap ton of mods I use and can recommend if you'd like.  If you can't find the ones I mentioned, or just want a link to them, let me know.

It is really buggy and keeps on crashing.  Is there anything I need to do to sort this out?

Make sure you installed them all correctly.  There shouldn't be any issues with it.

It works, however the LSPDFR mod itself crashes in game, so I have to keep running it - it barely manages to survive one situation.

Post your RPH log, please.  You can do so via pressing "choose file" in the quick reply, navigating to your GTA 5 directory, and attaching the RagePluginHook text document.

It seems like the ambient events from traffic policer are the problem.  You could go into the config and turn all ambient event chances to 0, but I don't know if that's viable for the long run.  I would redownload traffic policer, as it seems like maybe something wasn't 100% correct with it..

I am replacing my graphics card today from a GTX950 to a GTX1070 - will this make a difference?

Most likely not.  Sounds like you have a problem with software, not hardware.  Does GTA V crash normally for you (without LSPDFR)?  If the answer is no, then you can't expect your new video card to fix this issue.

You are right.  It is clearly a software issue (although the new graphics card has made it look much prettier!).

 

I wish GTA would come out with a mod manager!!
