Lights not working, please help

Featured Replies

Hello officers. I could really use your help on this one. I am very lost. I downloaded the following Tahoe. I replaced the Policeold1 with it. The issue I have is that the car looks great! but, not police lights. It did not come with a carvariation file. I could really use some help. Can someone walk me through the process to fix this? I would be willing to make a donation if it works.

Lets start with the basics and work our way up, since you haven't provided many details.

It says in the installation instructions...  "The sirensettings is 1, so change the .metas accordingly"

Have you done this?

Where again do I find the meta? Do I then scroll to that vehicle and change the siren setting to 1?

Searchbar :)

What search bar?? Where is the meta and the. What do I do? I have never done this before.

He's saying that if you had done a search on the internet you probably would have found the solution to this problem, since its been addressed many times already. Please make sure you have already done things like reading the instructions, looking at the comments and a quick google search BEFORE creating another thread for an already solved problem. If you don't it just annoys all the people that can help you and clutters up the forums.

If you haven't done this stuff before then it would probably be best if you read that guide ScarletDraconis linked you to. It will go over the basics for you and directly addresses the problem you are having. If you have read that guide AND the comments and still need help, post again and I will try to assist you.

They were already at 1 in carvariations.meta

I am truly sorry that you guys are upset. I am really trying to figure it out reading posts but nothing seems to be working. The car drives fine, looks great but when I turn lights/ siren on the siren goes as well as the tail lights but the other police lights won't come on. Do you think it's because it's a slick top and the original policeold1 was not? I checked the carvariations and it's set to 1. I also tried placing it in a newer patch day but still no luck.

I don't think the policeold1 slot actually has a corresponding entry in any of the accessible files, so I'm not sure what you are editing unless you've already added it manually.

Anyway, I don't currently have Gta5 installed so I'm going mostly from memory but I will try and help.

If the problem is with the carvariations file then this should solve it.

Using OpenIV, go to update\x64\dlcpacks\mpchristmas2\dlc.rpf\common\data

Now you have two choices:

If you have not edited that file before, simply use the carvariations file I attached to the bottom of this post. It is the original carvariations file with the necessary changes made for you. You may not want to download files from some stranger on the internet but it is just a text file; it would be extremely difficult for me to infect your PC with that. Once you downloaded it simply replace the original file in OpenIV and you should be good to go,

If you have other vehicle mods which have changed that file in some way or you don't trust my file, then you will need to edit it manually.

Extract the carvatiations.meta to your desktop and open it with notepad.

The top of the file should have something like this:

<CVehicleModelInfoVariation>
  <variationData>
    <Item>

(Note: there are more lines written below but they don't matter right now.)

Now make sure you do this correctly. Create a new line between <variationData> and <Item>.

Like this:

      <CVehicleModelInfoVariation>

        <variationData>

          <Item>

In the newly created gap paste the following:

<Item>
<modelName>policeold1</modelName>

(Note: this isn't the line for that vehicle specifically but it should work anyway)

The top of the file should now look something like this:

<CVehicleModelInfoVariation>
  <variationData>
    <Item>
<modelName>policeold1</modelName>

(Note: Once again, there are more lines written below but they don't matter right now.)

Now save the edited file and replace the original 'carvariations.meta' in the game files.

If you've done this properly you should be good to go.

EDIT: EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

If you have added an entry for 'policeold1' to any other carvariations files make sure you remove those entries so they don't interfere.

carvariations.meta

ok brother, I did everything you said and........still no lights.

Did you replace the file with my one?

Did you remove any other policeold1 entries from other files?

If you have installed the vehicle files correctly and followed my instructions exactly then there should be no problems. Honestly this is starting to look like what I like to call a "rookie mess" which is when your inexperience is causing you to make mistakes without realizing you are doing anything wrong. There's nothing wrong with that (we all started out the same way) but it makes things more challenging. Our troubleshooting may not help because there could be problems with some things you've done which we simply don't know about.

At this point the honest best suggestion I can make is to delete your mods folder in the game directory and start from scratch (I'm assuming you have everything installed into a mods folder right? You should always install into a mods folder like OpenIV suggests.). Once you've done that, ONLY install the Tahoe into the policold1 slot and ONLY install my provided carvariations.meta into the mpchristmas2 folder. If you do that and only that to a clean game then it should work 100%. If it doesn't then test it in the fbi2 slot which should work without needing to change any meta's. If it still doesn't work then your only options are to waste even more hours of time on this problem, or just use it in a different slot. Also consider using another model instead. Welcome to the world of modding; sometimes things just don't wanna work.

Edit: I've also noticed that you are receiving troubleshooting help on the same issue from other people. Its' probably best if you just follow one persons advice at a time, since different people have different ways of solving things and following two sets of instructions at the same time is probably just making things worse. For now, go follow their instructions instead of mine and come back here if nothing is working. I'll keep following this thread just in case you have questions, so please let me know if you solve the problem so I can move on.

(Note: this isn't the line for that vehicle specifically but it should work anyway)

The top of the file should now look something like this:

<CVehicleModelInfoVariation>
  <variationData>
    <Item>

Ok brother, I placed all the original  carvariations files back in the mod folder. I found the carvariations for policeold1 in the Mpluxe2 file. I looked at the car at file you game me and it matches the carvariations in policeold1 in mpluxe2. Should I change it to your even though they look the same? The siren setting is on 1 already.

From what you're telling me they should be working fine. Not sure what the issue is. As I said in the previous post, the only way I can be sure that your game is clean is if you delete the contents of your mod folder and work from the ground up. You can either give up now or spend time having to re-install your mods, and there is no guarantee of a fix.

Look it's currently the middle off the night where I am, but if you are willing to wait a while I'm going to install GTAV and try to troubleshoot the issue myself. Just not right now cause its way too late to be messing around with game files.

Ok I've successfully got the Tahoe working in the policeold1 slot with no issues. No special troubleshooting needed. Clearly there is something wrong on your end which is preventing it from working.

I'll walk you through installing this tahoe step by step to make sure you do everything right:

Firstly, DELETE YOUR MOD FOLDER.

There is no way around this. I have no idea what you've done to cause this issue but without physically being at your PC there is no way for me to find out, so the only way to be sure the problem is gone is to delete your mod folder. This obviously means you will need to re-install any other mods you have installed, but if you don't there is high chance you will run into more issues in the future.

Now that your copy of GTAV is clean, we can install the model.

Rename the model's files as per usual to

policeold1.yft

policeold1.ytd

policeold1_hi.yft

Then download the carvariations.meta and vehicles.meta at the bottom of the post.

Place all the files somewhere where you can easily find them. A good place would be a new folder on your desktop.

  1. Open up OPENIV, and at the top of the window click on the button labeled 'Edit mode'.
  2. Go to update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday12ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles.rpf, Then click on the red button that says 'Copy to "mods" folder'.
  3. Once it's finished copying the file, click on the little green cross on the top bar. In the window that pops up, navigate to the location where you have placed your new files (which will be the folder on your desktop if you followed my suggestion), select all three of the vehicle model files (policeold1.yft, policeold1.ytd and policeold1_hi.yft) and click 'Open'. The files should now be visible in the window, probably at the bottom of the list.
  4. Now go to update\x64\dlcpacks\mpluxe2\dlc.rpf\common\data. Once again click click on the red button that says 'Copy to "mods" folder'.
  5. Once it's finished copying the file, right click on 'carvariations.meta' and click 'Replace' on the pop up menu. In the window that appears navigate once again to the location of your new files, select the 'carvariations.meta' file and then click 'Open'. The original carvariations file should now be overridden by mine. If you double click on the 'carvariations.meta' in the main window it will show the contents of the file in a preview window. The first entry should be 'policeold1'. If it is, then you are good to go.

OPTIONAL STEPS: The vehicle will now appear ingame and have functioning lights, but if you try to drive it at speed it will flip constantly when you try to corner. To fix this you will need to give it a better handling line by editing the vehicles.meta. I've already done this for you.

  1. In OPENIV, go to update\update.rpf\common\data\levels\gta5. Once again click click on the red button that says 'Copy to "mods" folder'.
  2. Once it's finished copying the file, right click on 'vehicles.meta' and click 'Replace' on the pop up menu. In the window that appears navigate once again to the location of your new files, select the 'vehicles.meta' file and then click 'Open'. The original vehicles.meta file should now be overridden by mine.

Now open GTAV and test it out. The Tahoe lights should be flashing, but they will be dull because you won't have any lighting mods installed. If you're having trouble seeing the lights, drive to a dark area like a tunnel or change the time to midnight, the lights should be visible.

Thank you for all your help!

It's no problem :)

I hope that means the issue is resolved. Sorry it took so long, but when it comes to modding there are no guarantees.
