When GTA Updates, the update is automatically pushed through steam. And to run LSPDFR through the steam version of the game you need to have a steam directory. I'm wondering if it possible to make a script of mod that makes it possible to have LSPDFR/Modded GTA V outside of the steam folder for 2 major reason. 1) No Auto Update 2) You can play online with out a problem. Also, this could be done with the help of Ragehook developers letting it hook different custom directories set an .ini file. This would make it possible to have multiple versions of LSPDFR so .2b and soon .3 for use all with different shortcuts.

1- Acquire a baseball bat

2- Wait for update

3- on update day, as soon as steam tries to update the game, smash your Router with the baseball bat until no more interwebs :)

On a serious note, you can only prevent the update by turning the internet off
