Car Textures

I'm planning to make own police car textures, but I don't know how I can edit them. Can someone help me?

You need the following first... (Again this isn't a readme or exclusive one stop shop help from me but an expression of opinion of what you need)

  1. You need the OpenIV program---> To access GTA V files and graphics associated with them.
  2. A 'Paintshop' program, ----> I say paintshop program in general because there are a lot of them out there you can get based on preference or experience. I use two different ones like Ulead PhotoImpact X3 or Corel Paint Shop Pro X7 both can work for me on various projects.
  3. Knowledge of what you're doing in these textures and where to place certain colors or objects as it has an effect in-game based on where GTA V maps these textures on a model.
  4. Knowledge of where to get these textures in OpenIV,  there can be several locations depending on the type of car you want to edit and multiple files associated with it also. You can open vehicle files and then export them as PNG graphic files so you can edit it then re-import back in. There are readme files out there and help posts for beginners.
  5. Lastly, 'Skills' :ninja: I would say everyone can edit a file and craft an idea on it and put it in game but not everyone can make it work or appealing so 'know your audience' don't put out a flaming hot pink patrol car with tiger stripes unless there was a reason for it , haha...

Iknow what I'm doing in OpenIV and such.. I did actually some texture work for GTA 4, but there was a kind off template for the cars. In GTA V is that different.. so I don't know how to do it in GTA V

I'm unsure of what you mean of a template, I picked it up by just looking at the texture in OpenIV and seeing it on the model itself in OpenIV and where the texture falls on the model and then use the texture in the paintshop program to match the parameters of the original with my own style.

GTA V and GTA IV vanilla cars (made by Rockstar) are mapped differently to cars mapped by modelers. Unlike modelers who map the entire vehicle onto a template, Rockstar modelers only map the locations of text and badges/logos to a template. The only things you can really change in an image editing program are the logo's and writing.

Assuming GTA V cars are just like GTA IV cars, the colours on the car are controlled by a data file rather than a texture someone painted on.
