Custom Siren, Wail Tone Breaks vehicles.awc, Other Tones Work Fine

Featured Replies

So, I am creating a siren mod, and to test it, I've been replacing the sounds in GTA V > x64 > sfx > RESIDENT.rpf > vehicles.awc directly.

I imported my yelp and phaser/priority tones (SIREN_2.wav and POLICE_WARNING.wav) as directed in the OpenIV audio modification tutorial, and those worked perfectly in-game. They sounded great.

I also have an airhorn clip and the wail tone (0x0EA58C7C.wav and 0x0D329446.wav), and when I imported the wail tone with and without the airhorn sound, all of the audio from vehicles.awc wouldn't play in-game. So there were no engine startup sounds, no tire squeals, no car door open and close sounds, and no sirens.

My wail tone comes from another audio track originally, different from the one I sampled my yelp, priority and airhorn sounds from (because that audio track didn't play the wail siren long enough to create a clean loop). They were all clipped and exported the exact same way in Audacity, as a Microsoft signed 16 bit PCM .wav, split stereo to mono because OpenIV wouldn't accept them otherwise. Both original audio tracks were stereo when I imported them to Audacity.

Is my wail sound too long (5 seconds)? How do I fix/get around this? Sorry for the semi-long read.. Trying to be detailed. I remember someone who posted their siren mod and was having the same issue, so perhaps an answer will also help him and whoever else is running into this problem.

Yes it appears you have to use the exact length of rockstar's original siren because I tried using a wail from the cencom siren I had from IV but it was too short while the yelp and priority were fine. The wail that is originally in game when I checked it out was actually 6 seconds so yours isnt too long its too short by a second, I am not 100% sure on this but that is what it appears to be as I got one that is the same length and it works perfectly.

Well that's a major setback. Thanks for your input.
