Cant play multiplayer, or singel player with dsound

I want to play multiplayer with my friend, but when i go ingame i cant start the mod by pressing alt p, i reinstalled with xlive instead, then it worked but LIVE did not work. i need to get the game to work with dsound to be able to play with my friend, please help.
