JR98 Reviews: Driver San Francisco (PS3)

Featured Replies

This is a thing I will do, where I post my thoughts on games I own. I will also post what version I am reviewing (PS2, PS3, PS4, X360, XBONE, PC).

The first game is Driver San Francisco on PS3. I have been playing a lot in recent days and am thoroughly enjoying it. First off the car list is pretty impressive for an arcade racer, with Lamborghini, Pagani, RUF, Nissan, Chevrolet, Ford, Shelby, Dodge, Audi, Aston Martin and Alfa Romeo all making an appearance in this game. The car interiors are very well detailed, with the level of detail expected in racing sims. It also has very good animation quality inside the car. The handling of the vehicles is realistic but fun, even making heavy and slow vehicles fun to drive. The shift mechanic makes it completely different from similar games, allowing the ability to turn the traffic against your opponents, even allowing you to use SF traffic against other racers to gain an edge in a race. The traffic is well done and looks like that of a real city, including sports cars and trucks more common on highways and sedans and coupes more common on the city streets. There is also a lot to do, including free roam cop chases, street races, chase events, protecting missions and fire fighter missions. The story is short but is fun to play through, including a Story Mode+ mode allowing you to replay the story with all of the WP and unlocked content. The multiplayer is very fun, including new special abilities, and game modes, including "Takedown", where a group of cops attempt to take down a suspect. The in-game music is well done, with a nice mix of tracks to split music for cruising around and tracks for chase scenes. The only thing missing is some popular cars such as Honda, Toyota, Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes etc. but overall a very solid open world racer that is worth the money.
